Ottawa: The federal government has been considering several options with regard to the repurchase of banned weapons, said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino.

The federal government had banned 1500 models of weapons, including AR-15 and Ruger Mini-14. Under the proposed program to buy back these weapons, the owners of the weapons will have to either sell their weapons to the government or eliminate them at the expense of the federal government.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police has urged the Liberal government to take the help of any other organization, courier or mail services to carry out this work so that the police can focus on lawbreakers as well as those who commit crimes such as breaking border integrity, smuggling, etc.

Mendicino, meanwhile, said it was considering taking the help of several stakeholders, partners and law enforcement agencies to carry out the task. Work is also being done with other levels of government. We are keeping all kinds of options open.
