Toronto: World No. 2 Belgium has started the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a win. In its first match, Belgium defeated Canada 1-0. The only goal of the match came just before half-time. Mitchy Batshuayi scored the goal.

Canada, ranked 33rd in the FIFA rankings, gave a good fight to Belgium.

The match looked even throughout. Belgium players kept the ball in possession for 46% of the time, while Canada kept the ball possession for 43% of the time. Canada was ahead in the efforts to score goals. Canada made a total of 21 strikes, 4 of them were on target, although not a single attempt could be converted into a goal. On the other hand, Belgium made 9 attacks on the opposition goalpost, 3 of them were on the target.

Belgium’s Michy Batshuayi scored in the 44th minute was the decisive goal of this match. In the 11th minute of the match, Canada had a golden opportunity to take the lead. It got a penalty kick but Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save to stop Canada from taking the lead.
