New Delhi: Former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was unanimously elected as the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) at its national convention.

The leaders said the opposition parties have started coming together in different parts of the country and the BJP’s journey of winning two to 303 seats will start counting from 2024. The RJD said the united alternative offered by the opposition parties will change the state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “self-centred” politics.

The leaders made the remarks during their national executive meeting here today, which was attended by top leaders, including RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad. The party’s Bihar unit chief Jagdanand Singh, who was disappointed over his son Sudhakar Singh being forced to resign from the Nitish Kumar government, was absent from the meeting. Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav, a minister in the Bihar government and the eldest son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, left the meeting in a hurry.

Tej Pratap accused party leader Shyam Rajak of hurling abuses and misbehaving with his staff. However, three important resolutions on foreign policy and the economic situation of the country were presented during the meeting.

New Delhi: JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will take oath as chief minister and deputy chief minister today.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 2 pm at Raj Bhavan. Sources said more ministers will be inducted into the two-member cabinet later. Kumar will take oath as chief minister for the eighth time, leaving the BJP-led NDA. He will lead a seven-party alliance.

According to sources, apart from JDU, rjd and Congress will have representatives in the new cabinet. The Left parties are likely to extend outside support to the new government to maintain their independent identity.

Earlier on Tuesday, the political developments in Patna kept changing rapidly.

Nitish Kumar, 71, met the governor twice a day, submitting his resignation as chief minister heading the NDA alliance for the first time, while for the second time, along with other allies of the opposition grand alliance, including Tejashwi, went to Raj Bhavan and submitted a list of support of 164 MLAs to the governor.

The Bihar Assembly currently has 242 members and the magic figure of getting a majority is 122.
