TORONTO: Several key issues which are considered close to the hearts of the people, such as, inflation, health, and auto insurance seem to be taking the back seat in the Ontario provincial poll 2022. Voters reveal that an unprecedented inflation coupled with the exorbitant prices of auto insurance are making a hole in their pockets, and in addition many people are suffering from delayed appointments by the health experts, yet these issues were not at the forefront during the electioneering.

Issues such as affordable houses, $ 10 per day childcare program seem to be at the forefront, while all the prominent parties including the ruling Progressive Conservative Party PCP, Liberal Party, New Democratic Party, and the Green Party seem to be on the same page in promising the hike of daily wages.

As the polling day nears ahead the PCP led by Doug Ford is maintaining the clear lead. Contrary to the national trend of supremacy of Liberal Party, PCP in the leadership of Doug Ford is all set to repeat the historic victory, if the pre-poll surveys are to be believed.

An IPSOS survey, conducted for Global News, puts the PCP ahead of all and in a commanding victory position. As per the survey, the PCP leader Doug Ford seems to be capturing 38 percent vote bank followed by the Liberal party leader 28 percent, NDP leader 23 percent and the Green Party leader 6 percent.

Several candidates of Punjabi background are also in the fray particularly from the ridings in Brampton where the Punjabi diasporic people reside in large number. The polling for the 124 ridings (constituency segments) will take place on June 2. In the last election PCP had formed the government by winning 76 seats and capturing 40.5 percent vote share.
