Ottawa: Canada has advised its citizens to avoid travelling to all regions of the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan, which share a border with Pakistan.

“Due to unpredictable security situation and presence of landmines and non-exploded ordnances, all citizens in the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan should avoid travelling in areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan,” the advisory said.

Citizens advised to exercise caution

The travel advisory given by the Canadian government on its website, which was last updated on September 27, asked its citizens to exercise a high level of caution in India due to the “threat of terrorist attacks across the country”.

The advisory does not include travelling in or within the Union Territory of Ladakh. The advisory also urged people to avoid non-essential travel to Assam and Manipur “due to the risk of terrorism and insurgency”.

Earlier, India had on September 23 issued an advisory to Indian nationals and students in Canada to remain vigilant amid rising crimes and anti-India activities in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement that Indian missions in Canada have taken up these incidents with Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate these crimes.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement

“There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, communal violence and anti-India activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulate in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said offences and take appropriate action. ‘

No action taken against criminals

The statement also stressed that “the perpetrators of these crimes have not yet been brought to justice in Canada.” “In view of the increasing incidence of crimes, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and travel/travel are not allowed to travel,” the statement said. Those going to Canada for education are advised to take precautions and be cautious.

Register on the Help portal

The advisory also states that Indian nationals and students in Canada can register with the Indian High Commission in Ottawa or the Consulate General of India in Toronto and Vancouver through their respective websites or help portal madad.gov.in.
