Ottawa: Under the emergency program following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, the federal government will allow Ukrainians to apply for a free temporary visa to Canada until mid-July.

Under the Canada-Ukraine Authorisation for Emergency Travel program, Ukrainians and their family members will be able to apply for visitor visas without paying any fees until July 15, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser announced on Wednesday.

He said that after this due date, the fees and conditions will also be applicable as usual. Earlier, the last date for the event was March 31.

Under this program, Ukrainians will be able to live in Canada for three years and they will be allowed to work and study while living here. The standard period for a visitor’s visa is six months and the fee is $100.

“We will continue to help the Ukrainians at all costs, so we are ready to help as much as possible,” Fraser said.

The emergency travel program for Ukrainians was launched by the federal government in March 2022. It is one of the two streams announced for Ukrainians and the second is supported by the government for Ukrainians who wish to permanently remain in Canada.
