Ottawa: With a rising number of applications, the Canada Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has decided to introduce a new language test for the immigrants applying under the economic class.

The Canadian government is going to launch the new test from the mid-2023.

Presently, there are only four tests including TEF and TCF for French, IELTS and CELPIP approved by the Canadian immigration for English.

Most of the immigration programmes require candidates to undergo an English or French language test in order to be eligible for the Canadian student visa, work permit or seeking permanent residency.

Meanwhile, immigrants between 18 to 54 years of age need to prove their proficiency in either English or French before seeking Canadian citizenship, officials said, adding that considering the heavy flow of applications the government has decided to launch another language test for applicants.

Ottawa: In a bid to contain the gun violence, the Government of Canada has temporarily restricted the import of handguns from August 19.

The Justin Trudeau government is planning to introduce a gun control legislation proposed in May.

According to the information, the bill addresses the alarming role of guns in gender based violence, gets tough on organized crime and most significantly introduces a national freeze on the sale, transfer and ownership of handguns, anywhere in Canada.

Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety, today announced a temporary import ban on the importation of restricted handguns.

These restrictions will take effect on August 19th, 2022, and will last until the national freeze comes into force.

Vancouver: Pope Francis has apologized for the Catholic Church’s cooperation with Canada’s “devastating” policy of Indigenous residential schools and the atrocities inflicted on children over the past century in Canada.

He said on the sidelines of a programme held near Arminskin Indian Residential School that he apologises for the atrocities committed by the Christians against the tribal people.

For a long time people had been waiting for the Pope to apologise to them. This is expected to heal the wounds of the victims and also makes it possible for the church to reconcile with the Aboriginal people.

He interacted with the leaders of the tribals. He was earlier received by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon after arriving at Edmonton Airport.

Pope Francis will be in Canada for about a week. It may be recalled that the ancestors of tribals were allegedly subjected to torture before they were forcibly admitted to Indian residential schools run by Catholic churches during the last century in their childhood.

Those who died due to torture were buried without any trace of them.

Ottawa: India is concerned about rising growth of pro-Khalistan movement in Canada, mainly enhanced linkage with organised and notorious criminal that operate in India and Canada.

Indian officials reportedly shared these inputs with Canada authorities and said that there are at least eight such prominent gangs in the country presently and they are directly indulged in anti-India activities.

Officials, however, did not specify names of gangs or gangsters during ongoing conversation between India’s National Investigation Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Indian authorities expressed concern over emerging reality of gangsters in Canada securing ties with Khalistani groups, a senior official said adding that they have a strong connection in India and Canada.

Meanwhile, the officials also mentioned the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 29 and linked it to gang mushrooming in Canada as how a leader of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Goldy Brar apparently in Canada at present, took responsibility of his killing on the social media.
