TORONTO: India has asked Canada to treat as priority investigation into matter of a priest murder in Punjab’s Jalandhar in January 2021.

The national investigation team (NIA) had filed a chargesheet in this case before a special Mohali court a few days back against four accused for killing priest Kamaldeep Sharma by operatives of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) in Jalandhar.

Of four accused in the chargesheet, two were said to be settled in Canada, identified as Hardeep Singh Nijjar, chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), and his close aide Arshdeep Singh.

According to the information, Nijjar hails from Jalandhar but presently living at Surrey in British Columbia and a Moga resident Arshdeep is in the Greater Toronto Area.

Meanwhile, India has also been discussing the ongoing investigation into Goldy Brar’s alleged involvement in killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May.

A red corner notice was issued by Interpol in June but Canadian authorities to initiate action legally once the nodal investigating agency, Punjab Police, will provid the relevant documentary evidence, including that confirmed that Brar is operating out of Canada, a senior Canada official said.
