Chandigarh: Punjab Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Friday accused the former Congress Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of being “hand in glove” with the Badal family to protect his vested interests, that prevented a fair probe into the incidents of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib. He said that for seven long years the Sikh sangat was misled by these two families, but now justice will be delivered.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, the Punjab Cabinet Minister Dhaliwal, accompanied by Manwinder Singh Giaspura, MLA Payal and Gurpreet Gogi MLA Ludhiana West, said that it was unfortunate that perpetrators of the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and those killed in subsequent police firing at Kotkapura, have not been brought to book only because of nefarious Congress and SAD governments.

He said that neither Akali Dal nor Congress CMs including Capt Amarinder and Charanjit Singh Channi cared about the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat . “Whole of Punjab knows that Badals and Captain were hand-in-glove with each other. Due to their mutual understanding, no punishment was given in Bargari and Behbal Kalan firing incident culprits. But now the Bhagwant Mann government which has come to change things, will deliver justice very soon and all perpetrators of this crime will be taken to task for their sins,” AAP Minister said.

The Minister said that former CM Capt Amarinder had even sworn on the of “Gutka Sahib” (religious book) before the 2017 Assembly elections that justice in desecration of Guru Granth Sahib will be ensured. But to his understanding with Badals, he did not act. Even Mohinder Pal Bittu accused of 2015 sacrilege incident was killed in jail during Congress regime when Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was Home Minister, but the investigation into the case was never done.

Replying to a media query that Sukhbir Badal has denied ordering firing on Sikh protesters in 2015, Dhaliwal lashed out at him saying, “He is lying because no police officer can open fire without taking permission from CM or Home Minister. Now the SIT has summoned Badal and all facts will be cleared during a fair investigation,” Minister said.

Minister also dared Badal to clarify if the officers present at the Kotkapura on the day of the firing, were in contact with him? And on whose order did the officers fire, did he order the officers to fire? As Home Minister, did the authorities inform him? If the officers themselves fired, what action was taken by him as Home Minister, against them?

He stressed that people of Punjab have ensured a landslide victory to AAP hoping for a change. The government led CM Mann is working painstakingly to fulfill all its promises and action against venal leaders will be initiated as per the law soon.

CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for distorting and misinterpreting a routine administrative decision of the central government providing central benefits to the employees working with the Union Territory administration.

In a statement, he said, this was a long pending demand of the employees, many of whom are drawn from Punjab, that they should get all services benefits at a par with the central government employees. “Now that the central government has agreed to their demand, what is wrong about it and where does Punjab’s claim over Chandigarh get diluted with this?” he asked.

“Otherwise”, he added, “I will be the first person to oppose any such move that will go against the interests of Punjab”.

Capt Amarinder, who during his first tenure as Chief Minister, repealed Water Sharing Agreements with other states to save Punjab’s water, in 2004, asked Chief Minister Mann to get a clarification from his supreme leader Arvind Kejriwal about his stand on the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal issue and other issues related to Punjab. “Let the AAP clear its stand on these issues instead of beating around the bush on petty administrative matters”, he challenged Mann.

The former Chief Minister asked Mann and Kejriwal that instead of knit-picking they should also provide similar benefits to the employees of the Punjab government as have been provided to the employees of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

CHANDIGARH: Holding the Gandhis solely responsible for the complete rout of the Congress in all the recent Assembly polls, PLC chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday hit out at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) for trying to put the blame of their party’s dismal defeat in Punjab on him instead of gracefully admitting to their own blunders.

“The Congress has not only lost in Punjab but also in UP, Uttrakhand, Goa and Manipur and the Gandhis are entirely to blame for the party’s shameful defeat,” he said, adding that the fact was that the people, across the country, had lost faith in the leadership of the Gandhis.

Pointing out that many senior leaders within the party were outright blaming the infighting in Punjab Congress and the ‘anti-party’ statements of Navjot Sidhu for the abysmal performance in Punjab, the former chief minister the Congress was comfortably placed in the state till he was sacked to favour certain sycophants. The party had dug its own grave in the border state the day they decided to back an “unstable” and “pompous” person like Navjot Sidhu, and naming a corrupt man like Charanjit Singh Channi as chief minister just months before the polls, he said.

The CWC leaders who were claiming that there was a strong “anti-incumbency” against his (Captain Amarinder’s) government had conveniently forgotten that he had won every election for the party since 2017, the last being the civic bodies election in February 2021, just seven months before his unceremonious removal, he pointed out.

“These leaders are just sycophants who are trying to shield the family by shifting blame and closing their eyes to the writing on the wall,” he said, adding that the Congress had no future under the present setup.

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi admitted before the party’s working committee on Sunday that she kept shielding former Punjab Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh despite a spree of complaints against him.

Sources said that Gandhi made these remarks during the meeting after AICC screening committee chairman for Punjab Ajay Maken said that Captain should have been expelled from the party much earlier than September last year, when he already damaged the party’s base ahead of the state assembly.

Maken was listing on the reasons behind Congress’s loss in the recently held Punjab elections.

Leaders also commented that party’s top brass leaders in state also pulled down Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, first Dalit CM of Punjab, the asset Rahul Gandhi created for Punjab and India.

Chandigarh: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday shared report card of his four-year tenure as CM while clarifying that today’s event was to showcase his achievement of past four years but not to announce his new political outfit.

Addressing a press conference here, Capt said that he would announce the party soon and presently, waiting approval for the name and symbol of his new party from the Election Commission.

“Many Congressmen will join me once the party was formed as many senior Congress leaders are in touch with me and the party will contest the upcoming Vidhan Sabha polls on all the 117 seats,” he said.

He launched fierce attack on Congress party and said that the party is not even in the picture in Punjab to win the elections and their fight would be with the Shiromani Akali Dal.

He said ever since Navjot Sidhu joined the Congress, the popularity graph has slumped drastically.

Talking about an alliance with the BJP, he said that he said he had never said that he is forming alliance with the BJP but seat-sharing with it or other parties. “I have been with the Congress for 52 years, but will leave it in the coming days,” he said.

“Aroosa Alam had been coming here for 16 years and Sukhjinder Randhawa had never objected to her presence. I am open face any inquiry including CBI, Income Tax or ED probe into the allegations of her taking money out of the country,” he said.

“Enough is enough. Put an end to attempts to undermine the authority of CM time and again. Aspersions being cast on selection of AG & DGP is actually questioning the integrity/competence of CM and Home Minister to deliver results. It’s time to put the foot down and clear the air, ” Jakhar wrote on his official twitter handle.

New Delhi: Almost a week after resigning as Punjab chief minister, senior Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh would meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

There is, however, no official confirmation of the meeting yet but is being speculated that former CM is likely to join the BJP party and he would be allotted portfolio of agriculture minister, a close aide of Congress leader said.

The proposed Singh-Shah meeting has triggered intense speculation in the Punjab politics as Captain is annoyed with senior Congress high command due to prolonged infighting in the Punjab Congress and later the party high command had asked Captain Amarinder Singh to step down from the Chief Minister post followed by Navjot Singh Sidhu appointed as Punjab Congress unit chief.

New Delhi: In yet another setback to former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the Congress on Thursday said it had no comment if someone wanted to leave the party.

There is no place for anger, jealousy, envy, personal comments or a sense of revenge in politics,” the Congress said reacting to Singh’s comment on Wednesday that he would not let Navjot Sidhu become chief minister of Punjab at any cost and would field a strong candidate against him.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, considered close to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday said Singh hopefully would reconsider his remarks in light of the fact that the “Congress made him CM for nine and a half years”, The Tribune report states adding that Shrinate said the Congress was fighting an ideological war and would stand by those who wanted to fight this way.

“If he wants to leave, I have no comments on that,” Shrinate said, in a rare public rebuff to any party veteran, the report added.

After Shrinate said there was no place for anger in politics, Singh responded through media adviser Raveen Thukral saying there was no place for anger in politics but there was place for humiliation in the Congress.

“Yes, there’s no space for anger in politics. But is there space for humiliation & insult in a grand old party like @INCIndia? If a senior party leader like me can be treated like this, I wonder what the workers must go through!’”
