Chandigarh: Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh is likely to be the next Governor of Maharashtra. It is being speculated that the top leadership of the BJP has reached an agreement on this.

The talk of handing over the new role to Captain is also hot because Captain has a good relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has already inducted Amarinder into the 83-member national executive.

Asked about captain’s elevation as governor, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma said he was not aware of it yet.

The discussion on Captain’s new role intensified when Home Minister Amit Shah canceled the Patiala rally of January 29. With this rally, BJP’s Lok Sabha election campaign was going to start in Punjab. Preparations for the rally had been completed and the captain was given the command.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the current Governor of Maharashtra, has been in controversy for some time now. Last week, he had said that he had expressed his desire to step down during his meeting with Prime Minister Modi.

After this, the appointment of a new Governor in Maharashtra is considered to be fixed. Retired Army captain Amarinder Singh has merged his party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with the BJP.

Captain Amarinder Singh’s name also came up for the post of Vice President. However, the BJP later fielded former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate.

Chandigarh: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday launched fierce attack on Captain Amarinder Singh and said that he was removed by the Congress as Captain was working on the directions of BJP in Delhi.

She said this forced the Congress leadership to change the CM a few months before the elections as Punjab should be operated from state not from Delhi, Priyanka said addressing a rally in support of Congress candidate Ajaypal Singh Sandhu.

“AAP has also similar agenda and will govern the state from Delhi as Arvind Kejriwal will dictates AAP leadership in Punjab. So, be careful and don’t make a mistake to support them,” She said.

Saying that she is a Punjabi from heart as married in a Punjabi family, she urged women to chose a government smartly who cares for people like Congress do and always stand with them like it has been proved in the farmers’ agitation at Delhi borders.

Chandigarh: Launching fierce attack on the former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has accused him of hushing up the inquiry into the January 2017 Maur bomb blast case.

Randhawa said that it was a huge failure on the part of the former CM while speaking on the side-lines of a function to mark Police Commemoration Day at Punjab Armed Police Headquarters in Jalandhar.

“Captain has been raising up the issue of national security in Punjab and making to bust many terror modules but he should first expound why the Maur blast inquiry was stalled and why the truth has not been disclosed to public behind it. It was a major failure of Captain as a CM, who was also the home minister of Punjab,” Randhawa said.

He alleged that the inquiry into the case was stopped rather than speeded up even he and many other party workers raised this matter before him on several occasions.

“We are set to re-launch the inquiry into the matter and truth will be prevailed to ensure justice,” he said.

The blast had occurred near to an election rally venue of Congress leader Harminder Singh Jassi and two inquires were conducted in the case those pointed to the involvement of the Dera Sacha Sauda. Jassi’s daughter is wedded to the dera chief’s son.
