Chandigarh: Chandigarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilsher Chandel has filed criminal defamation plea against Congress PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu ror his contentious remark against Punjab cops during a rally last year.

DSP filed plea before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Aman Inder Singh in District Courts, Sector 43 citing that Sidhu has failed to tender an unconditional apology for his comments against the police during a rally in 2021.

Last year, DSP Chandel condemned Sidhu for allegedly lauding an MLA who makes “police wet their pants”. The DSP had described the remark as “shameful” and “an insult to the force”.

At a political rally held in Kapurthala’s Sultanpur Lodhi on 19 December, Sidhu, while sharing the stage with Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, purportedly said that the latter “could make a police officer wet his pants”, and suggested that party workers be like Navtej.

The video of the incident went viral on the social media, following this, DSP, posted a video and condemned Sidhu’s statement.
