Chandigarh: The bail application of Bhupinder Singh alias Honey, nephew of former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, arrested in connection with an illegal mining case, has been rejected by the court.

He was arrested by ED in a money laundering and sand mining case after recovering Rs 10 crore from his house in February this month and he has been in jail since then.

Chandigarh: Making serious remarks on the “character” of former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar levelled allegations of #MeToo movement against Channi.

During an interview with a news channel, Jakhar said that he has never accepted Channi as his leader as he knew him very well.

“Even after Metoo controversy with an IAS officer, Channi did the same act with a female journalist,” former Punjab chief Jakhar said adding that this is a very serious allegation and he is saying this with full responsibility.

The video clip of the interview has now gone viral on the social media. Channi, however, yet not reacted to the allegations.

Meanwhile, the #MeToo movement is a social movement against sexual abuse and sexual harassment where people publicize allegations of sex crimes.

Earlier, Jakhar also levelled allegations of Corruption against Channi and also launched fierce attack on Congress Rajya Sabha member Ambika Soni.

He blamed the Congress’ defeat in Punjab on Channi and Soni, who supported Channi as CM face.

Chandigarh: The results of the Punjab assembly elections have further widen the rift within the Congress party.

Former Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar allegedly levelled corruption charges against his party leader and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi.

Jakhar questioned that how can a person who has got Rs 35 crore be poor.

The Congress party had made Channi the face in the assembly elections by terming him a poor and common man, which did not go well as Congress managed to get only 18 seats and Channi had lost his both assembly seats.

Jakhar blamed the defeat on Channi and Rajya Sabha member Ambika Soni, who supported Channi.

Lambasting Channi, Jakhar said that if Channi was actually an asset, then why was he not invited to the CWC? and why was he not invited to campaign in Uttar Pradesh.

Chandigarh: A day after senior Punjab leaders being blamed for Congress’s defeat in Punjab during Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Former PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar Monday hit out at the Congress party’s veteran leader Ambika Soni and former CM Charanjit Singh Channi.

Jakhar, while sharing two reference of news about CWC meeting and Channi’s nephew involvement in land mining case, Jakhar termed former CM Channi a “liability” and added his “greed pulled him down.”

Jakhar wrote in a tweet, “An asset – r u joking ? Thank God he wasn’t declared a

‘National Treasure’ at CWC by the ‘Pbi’ lady who proposed him as CM in first place. May be an asset for her but for the party he has been only a liability. Not the top brass,but his own greed pulled him and the party down.”

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday said he has spoken to Navjot Singh Sidhu and invited him to talks so that the differences, if any, can be ironed out.

While addressing a media conference here, CM said that Sidhu is head of the family and he has spoken to him over the phone, all the differences will be sorted out soon in the party.

Sidhu had resigned from the post of the Punjab Congress president saying that he won’t be able to compromise with ethics and moral authority. Sidhu, on Wednesday, also posted a video on his official twitter account and said that he would keep fighting for welfare of Punjab and he resigned as party high command has again given positions to some persons who had worked against the Punjab people.

Chandigarh: In yet another attempt to present himself as an “aam aadmi”, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday suddenly stopped his vehicle on a highway to greet a newly-wed couple when he spotted them at Mandi Kalan village during his visit to Bathinda.

Channi also hugged the groom and had a brief chat with the newly married couple. The video was also tweeted by the Punjab Government, which has now gone viral on the social media. He was also seen taking a bite of sweets offered by the relatives of the couple.

Earlier, CM Channi had said that he is a representative of the common man, the farmer and anyone who is oppressed.
