Chandigarh: It is freezing cold in Punjab. The red alert issued by the Meteorological Department in Punjab has now turned into orange, but the effect of smog still remains. Since 8 pm, visibility has reached close to 25 meters in most cities of Punjab. This situation is expected to remain on Friday.

Especially in the morning and night, the icy winds are shaking. According to meteorologists, it is going to be colder this year than previous years. The ‘geography of the earth’ is also said to be one of the reasons for the severe cold in north India compared to other parts of the country. By geography, latitude means being close to linear areas.

Talking about Punjab, it is very close to the two hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, from where the icy winds blowing from which the entire north India, including Punjab, is submerged in cold. It happens every year.

This year, snowfall started in many places of Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir since the beginning of December 2022. At the same time, due to western disturbances, cold winds are coming from those areas.

In Punjab, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert till January 6, but a western wave may snow in Himachal till January 7. After which smog and cold will increase in Punjab in the coming days.
