Chandigarh: Senior Congress Leader & Punjab’s leader of the opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday expressed serious concern over the state of school education in Punjab due to the sheer nonchalant attitude of the Bhagwant Mann government.

Bajwa said the schools of eminence that the AAP government promised to come up with in the state were nowhere in sight. It was AAP’s major election promise to upgrade the education system in Punjab.

“The AAP had government announced that government schools would be upgraded as Schools of Eminence. Nevertheless, the government has yet to prepare the list of the schools they were planning to upgrade as Schools of Eminence even after seven months of the government formation. On the other hand, the meritorious schools meant for academically brilliant students were already suffering due to sheer neglect”, Bajwa added.

LoP said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been in power in Punjab for the last more than seven months now. “ However, in many schools, the students till class VIII have still not received the books yet in the state-run government schools”, said Bajwa.

The AAP government would undo the entire hard work and the efforts put in by the previous congress government to enhance the quality of education in the government schools. The quality of education and the infrastructure of the Punjab government schools were often reflected in various surveys conducted by the union government.

Bajwa said the students till the middle-level classes should have received the books in all government-run schools by the month of April this year.

However, it appeared as if Bhagwant Mann and his education minister Harjot Singh Bains have no serious concerns to maintain the upliftment of these schools.

Not only the students would suffer the casual, careless, and nonchalant attitude of the government but the quality of teachers and the infrastructure of the schools would also deteriorate in the days to come.

Bajwa said the non-serious approach of the Bhagwant Mann government could also be gauged from the fact that as many as 22 districts in the state were without the posts of district education officers (DEOs).

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the malicious campaign by the Aam Aadmi Party leaders and legislators against Dr Raj Bahadur, the Vice Chancellor of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

In a statement, Warring pointed out, on the one hand the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was quoted having apologized to Dr Raj Bahadur on behalf of his government, on the other hand various AAP leaders and their social media handles had launched a viciously malicious campaign against the VC leveling baseless allegations against him and justifying the ministers ‘Taliban-act’.

“The way your minister has not apologized to the VC and the way your party leaders have launched a sustained campaign against him, it is obvious your government approves of what the minister Jouramajra has done”, Warring told the Chief Minister.

The PCC president referred to lot of resentment prevailing among the medical fraternity with various associations of the doctors like the Indian Medical Association and the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) already having opened up a front against the government and warned of further intensifying their stir which might affect the healthcare services in the state.

“There is a strong feeling of anger and resentment among the medical fraternity and instead of addressing it, your party is trying to justify what your minister has done”, the PCC president told the Chief Minister, suggesting to him that he needed to take stand to restore the confidence and trust of the doctors and other medical staff working across the state.

CHANDIGARH: Health and Medical Education Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra on Friday directed the V-C of a health university, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon, to lay on a patient’s bed in full view of the media cameras, which has sparked a political controversy in the state.

Targeting AAP government over the issue, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the shameful and humiliating behaviour of the Health and Medical Education Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra with the Vice Chancellor of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Dr Raj Bahadur an eminent doctor of international repute.

“The minister probably forgot that he was holding the constitutional position as a minister and was not a mobster the way he behaved”, he remarked in a strongly worded statement here today, while asking the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to immediately make his minister to apologise for his insulting manner with the Vice Chancellor and restore the confidence and morale of the medical fraternity which was feeling completely demoralised by this incident.

“We are not living in a Taliban ruled Afghanistan but a civilized society and a democratic country and what the minister Jauramajra did is condemnable and unacceptable”, he said, while doubting whether anyone in his right senses would behave and act like that with a person who is as old as his father and has immense contribution towards improving the healthcare system in Punjab.

The PCC president said the minister had no right to make the Vice Chancellor lie down on a patient’s bed. “Not only is it unbecoming of the minister to behave like a mobster, but also it is medically unhealthy to make someone lie down, that too forcibly, on a sick person’s bed”, he added.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today asked the Chief Minister as to where did he vanish away when he should be seen in Patiala to restore the confidence of people there.

“It is surprising that the Chief Minister is out of action, vanishing completely on a day when he should be the most visible and involved in the affairs of the state”, Warring said, while pointing out Mann’s absence from Patiala.

“We understand that yesterday you were scheduled to attend the Chief Ministers’ Conference in Delhi, but why you did not visit the city today?” he asked the Chief Minister, while taunting him, “or probably because your master is busy and away to Gujarat and you can’t take out a step outside or utter a word without his permission”.

The PCC president said, it bode ill for a sensitive state like Punjab that its Chief Minister was completely dependent on and subservient to someone else. “Even his prerecorded messages broadcast every now and then have an external imprint”, Warring said, while remarking, “Punjab cannot afford a Chief Minister who cannot act on his own and needs to be continuously programmed by someone else”.

CHANDIGARH: Taking the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal head on, Punjab Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring dared him to name the “mafia” which approached him with bribes, as claimed by him (Kejriwal).

Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister’s claims made on record that after the Aam Aadmi Party formed government in Punjab some “mafia” approached him, Bhagwant Mann, ministers and MLAs with bribes, Warring asked him why he was not identifying them and taking action against them.

“You have admitted on record that the mafia approached you and offered you bribes. You know ‘the who’ and ‘the where’, but you didn’t take any action against them on purpose. This means you are hand in glove with them”, the PCC president accused Kejriwal, while challenging himto make their names public.

Demanding an enquiry against the mafia for offering bribes, he said, the government must tell as to why it did not take any action despite knowledge about them and their activities.

Warring reminded Kejriwal that his government in Punjab had issued a corruption helpline number and asked people to record videos of bribery and corruption but why he did not do the same himself. “Aren’t these double standards?” he asked Kejriwal.
