Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu): Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi along with several senior leaders formally launched the ‘Bharat Jodo’ yatra this morning.

The party is describing the yatra as a massive mass contact campaign and is hoping to revive the organisation. Rahul Gandhi, along with 118 other ‘Bharat Yatris’ and several other senior leaders, started the padayatra from ‘Vivekananda Polytechnic’ here.

The party has named 119 leaders, including Rahul, as Bharat Yatris, who will travel from Kanyakumari to Kashmir on a padyatra. They will cover a total distance of 3570 km.

New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday once again targeted the central government over inflation. He alleged that there was talk of becoming Vishwagurus by 2022 but the country was thrown into the fire of hatred. Rahul also said that the people are being suppressed under the burden of unemployment, inflation and taxes, against which the Congress is going to start the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi said, “Break the trap of inflation, Bharat Jodo! Today, the biggest problems in the country are unemployment, inflation and growing hatred. You will all remember the ‘very expensive’ jumla, but today the goods and services tax (GST) on food items is being collected from the public.

Rahul alleged that two crore youth were promised employment every year, but today the country has the highest unemployment in 45 years. The Prime Minister had said, ‘We will become Vishwagurus by 2022’ but today the country has been thrown into the fire of hatred. Criticising the central government’s policies, Rahul said that there are many issues that should be talked about, questions should be raised, answers should be found.

If the politics of malice, fear and vendetta is done by the government to raise the issues of the people, then we are ready to face everything. Do as many attacks as you have to do on me to speak the truth, I will not back down.

Rahul Gandhi said that the public is being burdened with unemployment, inflation and tax, against which we are going to start bharat jodo yatra. I am not alone in this fight, I have every citizen of the country with me and we will all connect India together.

New Delhi: The election of the Congress president will be held on October 17 and a notification in this regard will be issued on September 22.

According to sources, the nomination process for the elections will begin on September 24 and the last date will be September 30.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the apex policy-making body of the Congress, which began this afternoon, in which the programme related to the election of the party president was approved.

Chandigarh: Punjab Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Friday accused the former Congress Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of being “hand in glove” with the Badal family to protect his vested interests, that prevented a fair probe into the incidents of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib. He said that for seven long years the Sikh sangat was misled by these two families, but now justice will be delivered.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, the Punjab Cabinet Minister Dhaliwal, accompanied by Manwinder Singh Giaspura, MLA Payal and Gurpreet Gogi MLA Ludhiana West, said that it was unfortunate that perpetrators of the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and those killed in subsequent police firing at Kotkapura, have not been brought to book only because of nefarious Congress and SAD governments.

He said that neither Akali Dal nor Congress CMs including Capt Amarinder and Charanjit Singh Channi cared about the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat . “Whole of Punjab knows that Badals and Captain were hand-in-glove with each other. Due to their mutual understanding, no punishment was given in Bargari and Behbal Kalan firing incident culprits. But now the Bhagwant Mann government which has come to change things, will deliver justice very soon and all perpetrators of this crime will be taken to task for their sins,” AAP Minister said.

The Minister said that former CM Capt Amarinder had even sworn on the of “Gutka Sahib” (religious book) before the 2017 Assembly elections that justice in desecration of Guru Granth Sahib will be ensured. But to his understanding with Badals, he did not act. Even Mohinder Pal Bittu accused of 2015 sacrilege incident was killed in jail during Congress regime when Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was Home Minister, but the investigation into the case was never done.

Replying to a media query that Sukhbir Badal has denied ordering firing on Sikh protesters in 2015, Dhaliwal lashed out at him saying, “He is lying because no police officer can open fire without taking permission from CM or Home Minister. Now the SIT has summoned Badal and all facts will be cleared during a fair investigation,” Minister said.

Minister also dared Badal to clarify if the officers present at the Kotkapura on the day of the firing, were in contact with him? And on whose order did the officers fire, did he order the officers to fire? As Home Minister, did the authorities inform him? If the officers themselves fired, what action was taken by him as Home Minister, against them?

He stressed that people of Punjab have ensured a landslide victory to AAP hoping for a change. The government led CM Mann is working painstakingly to fulfill all its promises and action against venal leaders will be initiated as per the law soon.

New Delhi: The Congress announced that party will launch its ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from October 2, and the party has appealed to allied political parties and civil society groups to join the march.

An announcement in this regard was made by party general secretary Jairam Ramesh and senior leader Digvijay Singh after a meeting with the state Congress committee presidents.

The yatra will be taken out from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Addressing a press conference here, Digvijaya Singh said that it was decided to start the yatra on October 2 during the party’s Chintan Shivir held in Udaipur but now the possibility of starting the yatra earlier is being explored.

Meanwhile, the Congress decided that it will take up inflation, unemployment, the new “Agneepath scheme” of recruitment in the Army and other issues related to the people in both the Houses during the monsoon session of Parliament.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Strategic Group on Parliamentary Affairs. The meeting was chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has issued summons to Congress President Sonia Gandhi for June 23 in a money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. They were earlier summoned for June 8, but in the meantime they contracted the corona infection, due to which they expressed their inability to appear before the agency. The Congress president had sought a fresh date to appear before the ED.

Sonia Gandhi has been summoned for questioning at the ED office in Delhi on June 23, the official said. Sonia Gandhi’s son and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will appear in the same case on June 13.

Chandigarh: A Punjab Congress delegation led by PPCC Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa staged a protest inside the Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday.

Congress leaders alleged that the chief minister did not meet them after giving time.

The Congress leaders staged a dharna after CM Mann refused to meet them on time. New Delhi: In a bid to strengthen the party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and meet future challenges, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi formed a Empowered Action Group. Election strategist Prashant Kishor was also invited to join the group but he rebuffed to join the party as he wanted Priyanka Gandhi as Congress chief, free hand in effecting reforms, sources said.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted that Following a presentation & discussions with Prashant Kishor, Congress President has constituted a Empowered Action Group 2024 & invited him to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility. He declined. We appreciate his efforts & suggestion given to party.

Few minutes later, Prashant Kishor also tweeted and defended himself saying that he was asked to take responsibility for the election.

“I declined the generous offer of #congress to join the party as part of the EAG & take responsibility for the elections.

In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep rooted structural problems through transformational reforms,” Kishor Twitted.

According to the report, Prashant Kishor had advised that the party should take immediate decisions as well as have separate wings for electoral management and organisation management. Prashant Kishor wanted him to be given a free hand to reform the Congress, which was not acceptable to senior Congress leaders.

At the same time, Prashant Kishor’s advice on quitting old alliance partners in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra and on the party leadership also blocked the way. A Congress functionary said, Prashant Kishor wanted the party’s prime ministerial candidate and the Congress president to be different. Kishor wanted Priyanka Gandhi to be made the party president, while the party wanted Rahul Gandhi to become the president again.

According to Congress sources, in his presentation, Prashant Kishor had also said that the Congress should focus on around 370 Lok Sabha seats and enter the fray with an alliance in Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Chandigarh: Former Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar did not respond to the notice sent by the high command. The one week period of the notice elapsed on Monday and now the Congress high command is planning to summon him to Delhi, a senior Congress leader said. However Jakhar who is furious with the attitude of the party and is likely also leave the party in coming days.

Jakhar had already taken the edge off active politics. Jakhar is a Hindu leader of the Congress in Punjab. He had however refused to contest the recently held assembly election. While the impact of Jakhar’s displeasure was seen in the elections, Hindu voters in the cities distanced themselves from the Congress.

Jakhar was issued a notice for his controversial remarks about former chief minister Charanjit Channi. Jakhar says he is more upset with his some colleagues than the Congress high command who had created a rift in the Congress by giving wrong feedback to the high command in the last elections.

Chandigarh: Former Punjab chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said that his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu is critical serious and undergoing treatment in private hospital.

“Wife was seriously ill for the last two days , was hospitalised yesterday ….. will be operated today at fortis Hospital … praying for a speedy recovery,” Sidhu wrote on Twitter.

Kaur is an Indian politician and former member of Punjab Legislative Assembly. She was elected to assembly in 2012 from Amritsar East as a candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party.
