Ontario: Conservative House Leader Andrew Scheer said the Caucus of Pierre Poilievre would support the Liberal government’s bill to temporarily double the GST credit.

In an interview, Scheer said that putting tax dollars back in the pocket of Canadians is something that the Conservatives have always supported. Bill C-30, The Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 1, is one of the two bills introduced by the Liberals last week.

The Liberal government says the bill has been introduced to help low- to middle-income families who are currently reeling under inflation.

The bill seeks to amend the Income Tax Act to allow doubling of GST credit for the next six months. The government says that if the bill is passed in time, it will help an estimated 11 million people and families.
