Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Thursday, arrested a police Sub Inspector (SI), Baljitpal Singh, posted at police station Mour, Bathinda district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused SI has been arrested for accepting this bribe money in two instalments from complaint Rakesh Kumar, resident of Partap Nagar, Bathinda city.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 50,000 as a bribe and threatening to nominate him in a police complaint case which he was investigating. Besides, the accused police personnel has already taken Rs 20,000 from complainant in the morning and demanding more money. The complainant has recorded the conversation as a proof while giving him this bribe amount and falsely saying the accused to pay the remaining amount in the evening.

He further informed that the accused police official was under transfer and has to join at some other police station but threatening the complainant to book him and his relatives in the police case if the bribe amount was not paid.

The spokesperson added that the VB has investigated the allegations and laid a trap. The above said accused police official was nabbed red handed for accepting second instalment of bribe of Rs 30,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. The Bureau team has recovered Rs 50,000 from his possession which he has received as a bribe. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned police official at VB police station Bathinda. Further investigation in this case was under progress.

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, during its campaign against corruption in the State, on Friday nabbed a private person accepting bribe of Rs.1,00,000 in the name of police officials, to settle a vigilance case. During his search the Bureau has recovered one .32 bore Revolver,

One car and 2 mobile phones from his possession.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said the above mentioned private person Sukhjinder Singh of village Chak Roriwala (Tambuwala), Tehsil Jalalabad, district Fazilka has been arrested on the complaint of Sandeep Singh.

Giving details of this case he informed that the accused Sukhjinder Singh was a complainant in a bribery case under FIR No 13 dated 04-08-2022 under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, at VB police station Ferozpur which was registered against Swaran Rani, Junior Engineer, MGNAREGA, Fazilka. In this trap case she was nabbed earlier by VB while taking bribe amount of Rs 25,000 from this private person.

He further added that the complainant Sandeep Singh has approached the VB and alleged that accused Sukhjinder Singh was demanding Rs 15 lakh from him as a bribe in the name of police officials to dispose of the above said case but deal has been struck at Rs 11 lakh. The complainant Sandeep Singh is a brother of Swarna Rani JE.

The spokesperson further added that after verification of facts and material evidence, a VB team from VB, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Ludhiana has arrested the accused Sukhjinder Singh in the presence of two official witnesses while accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh in advance as remaining amount was to be given later on.

He informed that in this regard a case under FIR No 11, dated 30-09-2022 under section 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB EOW police station, Ludhiana. Further investigation in this case is under progress.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has registered a corruption case against a Social Education and Panchayat Officer (SEPO) and three Panchayat Secretaries on charges of embezzlement in the funds of Gram Panchayat Manawa, Tarntaran district amounting to Rs 8,85,000. In this case the Bureau has arrested two Panchayat Secretaries.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau (VB) said in this regard the Bureau has registered a case against Lal Singh, SEPO, holding charge of Block Development Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Valtoha, Panchayat Secretary Rajbir Singh of Gram Panchayat Manawa, Village Development Officers (VDO) Paramjit Singh and Sarj Singh under FIR No. 16, dated 14.09.2022, under sections 406, 409, 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of I.P.C. and 13(1) (A), 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station VB, Amritsar. In this case, Panchayat Secretary Rajbir Singh and VDO Paramjit Singh have been arrested.

Giving more details, he informed that the above mentioned officials at the helm of affairs of Gram Panchayat Manawa, block Valtoha have auctioned village land measuring 24 Acres 07 Kanal 09 Marla on annual contract for farming for Rs 7,35,000 in the year 2019-20, but the amount of said contract had not been deposited in the bank account of Gram Panchayat Manawa till date despite paid by the contactor.

Apart from this, Lal Singh, BDPO and Rajbir Singh Panchayat Secretary, had auctioned the village land in question without following the instructions of the High Court and the Rural Development and Panchayats department as compared to the bid of Rs 7,35,000 for the said land. They have auctioned the same land to their favourite persons at a lower price of Rs 3,35,000 and Rs 2,50,000 respectively in the year 2020-21 and 2021-22.

In this way the above mentioned accused officials in connivance with each other had committed embezzlement by showing less contract amount to the tune of Rs.8,85,000 in the last two years. He added that a case has been registered against the four officials of Panchayat department and further investigation of the case is under progress.
