Chandigarh: Following the orders of Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, the Public Works Department suspended its Superintending Engineer construction circle Hoshiarpur, Virinder Kumar, with immediate effect under Rule 4 of the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The PWD Minister said that the Punjab government is taking stern steps to eradicate corruption from the state and corruption will not be tolerated at all. He said that during the suspension, the headquarters of the officer would be at the office of the Chief Engineer (Headquarters) Patiala and the concerned officer would not leave the headquarters without the approval of the Chief Engineer (Headquarters).

Giving further details, the PWD Minister said that a video of the concerned officer was surfaced in which he was taking money from the contractor. He said that after the investigation, an FIR has been registered and after which it has been decided to suspend the concerned.

Anurag Verma, Principal Secretary, PWD said that corruption in the department will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that it will be ensured that whatever project of the department was in progress, all the money should be spent on the project concerned. He said that strict action will be taken against the employee or officer of the department who will be found involved in corruption or any kind of commission recovery.

CHANDIGARH: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Traffic Amardeep Singh Rai on Thursday has conferred a Commendation Certification (Class-1) to a Head Constable (HC) Gurpreet Singh posted in traffic wing of Mansa district Police for turning down a bribe offered by a traffic violator.

Notably, a video of a HC Gurpreet Singh in which he was seen refusing a bribe offer of Rs 200 in lieu of exempting a traffic violator from a challan went viral on social media. “Janab, make a video (of traffic violator), see he is offering me Rs 200 as a bribe. We will send this video to CM Bhagwant Mann’s group to show him how people are forcibly offering a bribe to the police,” Gurpreet was seen telling this to his senior as he turned down the bribe offer.

ADGP Rai said that taking note of the viral video in which HC Gurpreet exhibited his dedication and honesty towards his duty, they have decided to honour and appreciate his good deed. He also wished him good luck and encouraged him to always perform his duty with same sincerity and honesty in future also.

Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday nabbed Kanungo Om Parkash posted at tehsil Nawanshahar, district SBS Nagar red handed accepting bribe of Rs 5,000.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said accused Kanungo was arrested on the complaint of Gurmukh Singh of village Mahal Khurd, SBS Nagar district. The complainant has informed the VB that the accused Kanungo was demanding bribe to forward enquiry report regarding his Numbardari case. He further informed that he had already paid Rs. 15,000 to the accused Kanungo and now he was demanding Rs. 5,000 more from him.

After verifying his information, a vigilance team laid a trap and the accused Kanungo was arrested on the spot while taking bribe of Rs. 5,000 more from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under section of prevention of corruption act has been registered against him at VB police station, Jalandhar and further investigation is under progress.
