LUDHIANA: Deputy Commissioner-Cum-District Election Officer Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned all victory processions after the counting, thereby, the candidates participating in the elections must strictly abide by the guidelines issued by the ECI.

Divulging the details, the DC said that the ECI in its directions has prohibited any kind of victory procession on or after counting adding that strict action would be taken against those found violating these guidelines. He also said that any kind of negligence in this regard would be dealt with strictly. The ECI has also restricted the number of persons to accompany the winning candidates while receiving their certificates as only two persons can accompany the candidate or his/her authorized representative during issuing of certificate of election.

New Delhi: Union government has given ‘Y category’ security with CRPF cover to former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas amid a possible threat to his life following his remark over Khalistan.

He recently accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that he has connection with the Sikh seperatist group ‘Khalistan’.

Citing that Vishwas might have a threat to his life, based on secret intelligence inputs from agencies, government provided him the security, officials said.

Ahead of Punjab polls, Vishwas said that Kejriwal had supported Khalistani elements in previous Punjab elections and he is inclined to become PM of independent Punjab.

Kejriwal categorically dismissed all the allegations termed these allegations as a propaganda ahead of elections to malign his image.

Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested the Governor of Punjab to issue appropriate advisory and take action as deemed necessary against Punjab State Information Commissioner Anumit Singh Sodhi.

Divulging details, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Punjab Dr S Karuna Raju said that two complaints were received against State Information Commissioner Anumit Singh alleging that the latter in violation of the powers conferred upon him as the State Information Commissioner, is running an election campaign in favour of his father Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi.

The letter from ECI reads, “The video/pictures sent by the complainant do not leave any doubt that Shri Anumit Singh is taking part in the election campaign and undertaking political activity.”

“On the basis of the reports, facts, rules and provisions of Model Code of Conduct, Commission has found that Shri Anumit Singh Sodhi has violated the general provisions of RTI Act and the provisions of Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India,” the letter further reads.

Meanwhile, the ECI has also written a letter to the Secretary State Information Commissioner citing, “Election Commission has desired that it may be brought to the notice of all Information Commissioners to restrain them from any campaigning in official vehicle, keeping in view Section 12 (6) of Right to Information Act, 2005 and Commission’s extant instructions on tours of members of various Commissions during the period of elections.”
