Toronto: With recent murders of Punjab-origin people in Canada, there is a panic spread among the parents whose children are studying in Canada.

According to the information, in just 17 days in Canada, five Punjabis have been killed in different incidents. The Indian government had also issued an advisory in September against “sharp rise in hate crimes, communal violence” in Canada.

On November 24, an 18-year-old Punjabi-origin youth, Mehakpreet Sethi, was stabbed to death by a youth in the parking lot of the high school in Canada’s British Columbia province.

The family came to Canada from Dubai 8 years ago and belongs to Faridkot district of Punjab.

Mehakpreet’s father Harshpreet said, “I came to Canada with the hope that my children’s future will be better, they will be safe… Now I am regretting why I have come to this country with my children. ”

Pawanpreet Kaur was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at a petro-Canada gas station in Mississauga city of Ontario province on the night of December 3, where she had been working all night. Pawanpreet’s mother Jasvir Kaur said, “We regret sending him to Canada. We should have kept him here with us

On December 3, another incident came to light in which 24-year-old Sanraj Singh was shot dead in Edmonton. At around 8:40 p.m., police were called to the area of 51st Street and 13th Avenue near Sakav, from where they received information about the shooting.

As soon as the police reached the spot, they saw Sanraj in an injured condition. He was declared brought dead when he was taken to the hospital.

Similarly, the Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police found the body of a girl in West Vancouver on November 29, 2022, who was later identified as Jasvir Parmar, who had been missing from Surrey for several days. Jasvir Parmar was a resident of Surrey and had last contacted her family on November 22.

On December 10, 40-year-old Harpreet Kaur was stabbed to death multiple times at her home in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
