Ottawa: The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has arrested ans charged a man after seizing firearms while trying to smuggle it into the country.

According to the information, on November 2022, CBSA officers at the International Mail Processing Centre in Toronto intercepted a suspicious parcel containing two prohibited overcapacity 9mm magazines and addressed to a resident of Garnett Settlement, New Brunswick (NB).

The parcel was seized and held by the CBSA pending further investigation.

On January 20, 2023, CBSA investigators, with assistance from CBSA Intelligence, CBSA Detector Dog Services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, executed a search warrant on a residence in Garnett Settlement, NB.

During the search, CBSA seized a prohibited 3D-printed 9mm handgun with a prohibited overcapacity 15-round magazine and silencer, a restricted.22 calibre handgun, a bolt action rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun, CBSA said in a statement.

Following this, CBSA Criminal Investigations laid the following Criminal Code charges against Bradley Hoy (31) of Garnett Settlement, NB including Four counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Two counts, Possession of a Prohibited Device; One count, Tampering with a Serial Number; Four counts, Unsafe Storage contrary to regulations.

“We’re taking action to keep Canadians safe from gun violence by keeping illegal firearms- including 3D printed guns – out of Canada. I want to thank the CBSA, the RCMP and local law enforcement partners for their continued efforts to keep guns off our streets and protect Canadians, ” said Marco E.L. Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety.
