Elmau (Germany): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India’s commitment to climate conservation is evident from its actions.

He expressed the hope that the rich countries of the G-7 will support India’s efforts in tackling climate change. He also called upon various countries to take advantage of the large emerging clean energy technology market in India.

During his address at the session on “Investment in the Better Future: Climate, Energy, Health” on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s track record and said India has achieved 40 per cent of the target of energy needs from non-conventional sources within the preceding nine years. He said, “The target of adding 10 per cent ethanol to petrol has been achieved five months ahead of time.

He said, “When a big country like India has such an aspiration, other developing countries are also inspired. We hope that the rich countries of G-7 will support India’s efforts. Today a large market for clean energy technology is emerging in India.

Modi said the G-7 countries can invest in research, innovation and manufacturing here. He said the standards that India can provide for every new technology can make that technology affordable for the entire world.

Earlier German Chancellor Olf Schulz gave a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi here today. He also addressed a session here. To participate in the G-7 summit, seven of the world’s richest countries will discuss various global issues including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, food security and counter-terrorism.

Modi has arrived here to attend the summit on the special invitation of the German Chancellor. Indian Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Elmau to attend the G-7 summit, was received by German Chancellor Olf Schulz. He said India is working together for the world’s equitable progress.

Prime Minister Modi also shook hands with US President Joe Biden and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau before the start of the summit.
