Mangaluru: A woman has been arrested by customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport for illegally smuggling gold worth Rs 5.34 lakh.

The woman was trying to transport gold after concealing it in the buttons of a burkha, officials said.

Officials said that accused woman came from Dubai to the city on April 15 evening.

According to the information, 100gm of gold of pure 24 carat being smuggled in form of small ring-shaped circular split washer type objects concealed inside the press buttons of the burkha.

Meanwhile, further investigation is underway into the matter and woman has been detained, officials added.
