New Delhi: The complete report has been released by the World Health Organization after 66 children died in the Gambia, potentially due to cough syrup supplements.

According to the report, toxic chemicals have been found in cough syrups exported from India, which has led to the death of children. The Government of India has formed a four-member committee of experts to investigate this report.

After this, this committee will advise the DCGI to take appropriate action.

The government is on alert mode regarding this matter. It is known that the cough syrup with which the death of children is being talked about was made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited.

The production of cough syrup has been suspended after the matter came to light and the report is awaited after examining the cough syrup.

Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij said on Wednesday that officials have inspected a cough syrup factory near Sonipat town in the state. Vij said that 12 types of violations have been found in the made company regarding the manufacture of phlegm, after which the order to stop production was given.

The WHO said last week that laboratory analysis of four products of Maiden Pharmaceuticals — promethazine oral solution, cofexmalin baby cough syrup, macof baby cough syrup and magrip n cold syrup — had found “unacceptable” amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which can be toxic and lead, which can damage children’s kidneys.
