Chandigarh: Foggy conditions affected normal life at several places in Haryana and Punjab this morning. The minimum temperature dropped below normal in some parts of the two states. Due to fog, the visibility was reduced and there was a risk of accidents.

The situation prevailed in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Adampur, Bathinda and Faridkot in Punjab.

Gurdaspur was the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of five degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 8 degrees, Patiala 8.2 degrees, Bathinda 5.8 degrees and Mohali 8.3 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Mahendergarh was the coldest at 4.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Hisar at 6.7 degrees Celsius, Karnal at 8.2, Ambala at 8.4, Bhiwani at 6.2, Sirsa at 9.2 and Rohtak at 8.6 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh: A court has sentenced former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala to four years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 lakh in a disproportionate assets case.

Announcing the sentence, Special Judge Vikas Dhull has also imposed fine of Rs 50 lakh on Chautala for acquiring disproportionate assets from 1993 to 2006.

CHANDIGARH: In a well coordinated operation, Punjab Police on Thursday has successfully averted a possible terrorist attack by giving a hot chase of over 300 Km and getting four suspects arrested with the recovery of three IEDs packed in a metallic case (2.5 kg each) and one pistol along with ammunition.

The accused persons were identified as Gurpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh and Parminder Singh, trio residents of village Vinjoke in Zira, Ferozepur; and Bhupinder Singh of Village Bhatian in Ludhiana were arrested from Karnal by the Haryana Police following the inputs from the Punjab Police.

Divulging details, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab VK Bhawra said that Central Agency earlier shared an input that some suspects, who may be carrying explosive material and weapons are moving in the border districts of Fazilka and Ferozepur.

Subsequent to this input, Police teams led by Commandant PAP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh and SHO SSOC Fazilka Satinderdeep Singh Brar along with teams from Central Agency were on manhunt on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday to nab these suspects, he said, adding that these teams had jointly identified suspected locations in the districts of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot and SAS Nagar.

The DGP said that the suspects were found to be moving in the area of Ferozepur and later they started moving in a White Innova vehicle DL1VB7869 towards Ludhiana.

“The suspects further took the National Highway and started moving towards Ambala, when acting promptly, Punjab Police shared the development with Haryana Police, which had managed to intercept the vehicle in Karnal and arrest the accused persons with the IEDs,” he said.

In their preliminary interrogation, accused persons have revealed that they were working for Pakistan based gangster-turned-terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda. Notably, Rinda, a notorious gangster active in Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Haryana is a history-sheeter and wanted by the Punjab Police in heinous crimes including Murder, Contract Killing, Robbery, Extortion and Snatching.

Meanwhile, the FIR registered at the Madhuban Police Station in Karnal reads that following the reliable inputs from SHO SSOC Fazilka Satinder Singh Brar that White Innova Car suspiciously carrying explosives heading towards Delhi from Punjab, Police teams were sent to conduct Naka at Bastara Toll Plaza and during checking of vehicles, accused persons were arrested.

Chandigarh: Punjab government-led Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently has passed a resolution in the assembly to make Chandigarh the capital of Punjab only. The Haryana government has strongly objected to this move and now all political parties in Haryana have opposed the AAP’s decision. Not only that, the Haryana government has called a special session of the assembly on April 5.

Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma said the decision to hold a one-day special session was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. Sharma, who was present in Faridabad, said he attended the meeting, which was chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar through digital medium.

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar raised the issue of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal again as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed government in Punjab.

Haryana Chief Minister said that it is now doubly responsible since Haryana had to take water from Punjab and give it to Delhi.

Addressing a press conference here, Khattar said as AAP’s government is now in Delhi as well in Punjab, it is more responsibility of Punjab to provide water for the SYL. Haryana has to take water from Punjab and give it to Delhi.

Chandigarh: Amid ongoing protest by farmers and blockage of some important roads connecting to NCR regions against farm laws, the Haryana Government has told the Supreme Court that it was making “sincere” efforts to remove the blockade for resumption of free flow of traffic.

“Sincere efforts are being taken to convince farmers to lift the blockage from highways and to resume traffic flow on those roads for the convenience of the general,” the Haryana Government said in an affidavit filed in the top court.

The government further said that regular meetings deliberations were being held by the administrations with farmers’ organisations to convince them to remove protest from roads.

” Astate-level committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary was also formed and a meeting called by the government on September 19 meeting wasn’t attended by the farmers’ leaders.”

Earlier, the UP Government had also submitted in an affidavit and told the court that the government is making efforts to convince farmers to remove blocking from roads those causing grave inconvenience to commuters.

While hearing a petition, the Bench led by Justice SK Kaul had on August 23 asked the Centre and governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to find a solution to the blockade of roads.
