Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to each player of the Indian team for winning the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.

Patnaik, who is on a visit to Rourkela, also inaugurated the ‘World Cup Village’ at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium complex. On the occasion, the Chief Minister interacted with the Indian men’s hockey team, which was staying at the World Cup village.

Naveen Patnaik said, “If our country wins the World Cup, then each player of the Indian team will be given a reward of One crore rupees. I congratulate Team India and hope that they come out as champions. It is worth mentioning that the World Cup village record has been prepared in 9 months. It has 225 rooms with all the facilities as per the level of the Hockey World Cup. The teams and officials playing in the upcoming Hockey World Cup will stay in the World Cup village

Bhubaneswar: India will begin its campaign at next year’s FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in Odisha with a match against Spain. India have been placed in Pool D along with Europe’s strongest teams England, Spain and Wales.

The hosts will play their first match against Spain on January 13 at 7 pm on the opening day of the tournament.

The World Cup will begin with a match between Argentina and South Africa teams to be played at 1 pm. There are 16 teams participating in the World Cup.

According to the draw held on September 8, these teams have been divided into four groups. Australia, Argentina, France and South Africa in Pool ‘A’; Pool B features Belgium, Germany, South Korea and Japan, while Pool C features the Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia and Chile.

A total of 44 matches will be played during this period and the final will be played on 29 January 2023 at 7 pm. Defending champions Belgium will open their campaign against South Korea on January 14.

New Delhi: The indian women’s hockey team’s journey in the ongoing women’s hockey world cup 2022 in Spain came to an end on Monday. In an important match here, the Indian team got a thrilling defeat at the hands of hosts Spain. Spain scored just 3 minutes before full-time to end all india’s hopes.

Earlier, the Indian team could not register any victory in all three of its matches in Pool-B. The Indian team’s two matches were drawn, while the rest of the match team lost.

In the cross-over match against Spain, the Indian team showed a strong game in the beginning. The two teams saw a three-quarter equaliser. But in the fourth quarter, Spain’s attacks intensified.

The Spanish forwards were constantly piercing the Indian defence line, though these attacks were not converting into goals. With 3 minutes of play left in the match, the Indian defence collapsed and Spain scored a goal. The goal proved decisive and India lost 1-0.
