Chandigarh: The Punjab government’s investigation into the employees and officers who had secured PR abroad during government service has put the people living here in a fix.

Following a probe, the names of hundreds of people have started coming out, many of whom had arranged for foreign shelters after 10-12 years of retirement. Many of them have been travelling abroad without taking leave and continued to work and also filed tax returns according to the system here.

A large number of employees of the police, revenue department and Powercom are among those who did so, the ongoing investigation revealed.

Usually, government officials send children abroad and later the children become PR and invite the parents there.

A retired police officer said the only in Surrey, 11 former and current district police chiefs children are living of which nine of them are PPS officers. Canada residency is required for two years out of five years to maintain PR.

According to the information, many teachers spend six months in Canada without taking leave.

An immigration expert said that surprising facts can come out of the data of those who have been reunited as a family from the Canadian Immigration Department.

He said that hundreds of officers from Punjab have obtained Canada’s PR under the investment scheme in Quebec. He said that during the investigation, hundreds of employees will be found whose right to pension can be lost and the burden of the government treasury can be very light.

It has also been reported that many people have become PRs of Canada with fake Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) despite criminal cases against them.
