Chandigarh: The Punjab government is all set to take action against 9 senior police and administrative officers in the security lapses incident during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab last year.

CM Bhagwant Mann can soon take a decision in this direction and a charge sheet can be filed against the responsible officials.

On January 5, 2022, PM Modi was on a tour of Punjab. During this time his convoy was stuck in a jam on the Ferozepur-Moga flyover for 15 minutes, ater the PM had to return to the Bathinda airport.

On Sunday, the central government had sought a report from the state government regarding the action taken against the concerned officials. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla spoke to Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua seeking a report on the matter and expressed displeasure over the delay in the investigation.

A 5-member committee was also formed to investigate the security lapse case. The responsibility of which was entrusted to retired Justice Indu Malhotra.

The five-member committee submitted its report after six months of investigation, holding the then state chief secretary Anirudh Tiwari, police chief S Chattopadhyay and other top officials responsible for lapses in pm Modi’s security.

After this report, instructions were given to take action against the responsible officers. According to sources, after the Union Home Secretary’s question to the Punjab Chief Secretary in this matter, now notices have been issued to the officers who are negligent in duty. Now the file has been sent to CM Bhagwant Mann for further action.
