New Delhi: The Centre government has changed the rules for hoisting the flag in the country under which the tricolour is now allowed to be hoisted both during the day and night. Also now polyester and machine-made national flags can also be used, which was earlier banned from doing so.

Under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the government is going to launch in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme from August 13 to 15. In a letter to secretaries of union ministries and departments, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has said that the display, hoisting and use of the Indian National Flag falls under the Indian Flag Rules, 2002 and the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971.

According to the letter, the Indian Flag Rules 2002 have been amended through an order dated 20th July, 2022 and now para 2.2 of Part II of the Indian Flag Rules, 2002 shall now be read as follows; ”Where the flag is hoisted in the open or placed at a citizen’s house. It can be lit day and night. Earlier, the tricolor was allowed to be lit only till the sun set.
