New Delhi: Union minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday has accused SP leader Akhilesh Yadav of insulting Lord Buddha by allegedly not accepting his bust during an election rally in Uttar Pradesh.

Sharing a video of Yadav purportedly not receiving the bust being given to him, Rijiju said that he did not receive it deliberately during his rally at Kaushambhi a few days ago.

Kaushambhi is a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists.

Following this, several BJP leaders have accused SP president of insulting religious sentiments.

“I knew that Akhilesh Yadav was never serious about the sentiments of Dalits, but this open insult of Lord Buddha is an insult of India’s ethos,” the Union minister tweeted in Hindi.
