New Delhi: Following meat shopkeepers were coerced to shut down their shops in Delhi by civic officials due to Navratri, there is a outrage over the decision in the national capital.

Mayors of south and east districts, belonged to BJP party, have issued directions and asked shopkeepers to shut their shops for nine days as people did not eat non-vegetarian food during the festival till April 11 amid some locals complained that they do not like seeing meat being cut in open.

However, many people had objected to this decision of the local bodies and forcing shopkeepers to shut down their shops. People took to social media to express outrage and demanded rollback of the decision.

The Delhi is governed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party which has not issued any official orders asking meat shops to shut but mayors belong to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

MP and Trinamool Congress party leader Mahua Moitra strongly condemned the decision and said that Indian constitution allows her to eat when she likes.

“I live in South Delhi. The Constitution allows me to eat meat when I like and the shopkeeper the freedom to run his trade,”she said.
