Washington: The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering to rechristen monkeypox virus and it has sought suggestions from the public in this regard on Tuesday. The WHO has asked people to suggest a less intimidating name for the fast-spreading disease. The United Nations health agency has been in concern for weeks to rename the disease that has emerged globally since May.

Significantly, there have been reports of attacks on monkeys as the disease’s name is associated with monkeys.

Experts have warned that the name of the lineage of human-like animals (Primates) may be tarnished due to the name Monkeypox. Experts say that while monkeys have little role in the spread of this disease. Animals were held accountable for the spread of this disease in the African continent.

Website for monkeypox’s new name

“Human monkeypox had already been named before the current best ways of naming diseases,” WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib told reporters in Geneva.

Significantly, Monkeypox got this name because its virus was actually identified in monkeys. In 1958, this virus was found in monkeys kept for research in Denmark. However, this disease is also found in many other animals. This disease mostly occurs in rodents.

The disease first spread to humans in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970. Since then, the disease has been limited to some West and Central African countries.

New Delhi: As the world started getting relief from the effect of corona infection and people started returning to their old lifestyle, covid cases started increasing once again.

Over 15 to 20 thousand new cases of corona infection are being reported in a day across the country.

Moreover, another dangerous virus Monkeypox knocked the world and the WHO issued warning against it asking countries to take the virus seriously as it may have serious persecution.

The WHO declared Monkeypox a global health emergency on July 24. Monkeypox is also a viral disease like corona, which spreads rapid infection from one person to another. Based on data released by the United States health agency Centers for Disease Control, so far patients infected with monkeypox have been found in 87 countries of the world and the number of these patients is 26, 208.

These are the cases in which this disease has been confirmed. While many patients are currently being examined considering them as suspects. In India, 9 confirmed cases of Monkeypox have been reported in the country so far.

Difference Between Monkeypox and Corona Infection

The coronavirus usually enters the body of another person through breath. In medical parlance, it is called acute respiratory syndrome. While monkeypox spreads through orthopoxvirus genes.

The coronavirus spreads through the breath and droplets released from the breath of the infected person who are infected with the virus can also infect another person by going to the body. Usually, this virus enters the body of any person through breath. If the virus gets infected on the nose and mouth when using a towel or other item used by the infected person, it can still spread the infection.

While the monkeypox virus usually spreads in humans when it comes in contact with animals. When a person touches an infected animal or eats the meat of such an animal, then he can become a victim of this infection. However, after this, this infection can spread easily from one person to another.

The corona virus enters the body and attacks the body’s immunity by making millions of copies of it. While monkeypox virus occurs when coming in contact with pus, saliva or other substances released from the body of an infected person.

The virus that spreads corona infection has a single strand genetic material code, which is called RNA. While monkeypox-spreading viruses have a double-stranded genetic code, which is related to DNA.
