Ontario: Two employees of the Peel Children’s Aid Society (CAS) defrauded their own society of $250,000, police said on Monday.

Peel Regional Police said two former employees of the society had been arrested and charged by investigators from their Fraud Bureau.

According to the information provided by the investigators, several charges have been imposed in connection with the alleged purchase and reimbursement scheme. The criminal investigation was launched after an interim assessment in July 2022 at Peel Cass. After this assessment, two employees of the organization were removed from service. Both of them were accused of cheating the organization.

Police said an investigation into the case found that the two suspects together defrauded the organization of $250,000. As a result, police on Monday arrested and charged Marino Cader, 43, of Ancaster, Ont. and Andre Paul, 46 of Acton, Ontario. Cader was a former director of finance, property and information technology at Peel Cass and Paul was a former property maintenance coordinator.

Cader has been charged with seven charges of defrauding more than $5,000 and five for producing forged documents.

Three charges have been slapped against Paul for forging documents. The two will appear in court in Brampton, Ontario, on January 2.
