New Delhi: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has launched a formal review following Will Smith’s assault on Chris Rock at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.

The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” a spokesperson for the organization said. “We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”

Sources said that Smith may face some disciplinary action if found guilty in the inquiry.

Smith stormed the Oscars stage this year after furious actor struck comedian Rock across the face for making a joke on his wife.

The clip has immediately gone viral on the social media and left stunned viewers questioning if it had been scripted or genuine.

However, actor later apologised for his actions.
