New Delhi: Protests have been going on in Iran since the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16. A General of the Revolutionary Guards Amirali Hajizadeh gave the estimated number of people killed in the protests and said said more than 300 people had been killed so far in protests against the hijab.

Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards’ aerospace division, said: “Everyone in the country has been affected by the death of Mahsa Amini. I don’t have the latest figures, but I think probably more than 300 people, including children, have been killed in the country since this incident.”

Notably, Iran’s general’s estimate is significantly lower than the toll reported by human rights activists. The activist group says 451 protesters and 60 security personnel have been killed and more than 18,000 detained since the unrest began.
