Washington: Floods in Pakistan have worsened the economical situation of the country. One-third of Pakistan is struggling with this flood.

Following this, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Pakistan on September 9 and 10. During the visit, Secretary-General Guterres will hold special talks with the Pakistani leadership and senior officials on the devastation caused by climate change.

The Secretary-General will visit the areas most affected by the climate disaster. He will interact with displaced families and oversee the UN humanitarian response work in support of the government’s rescue and relief efforts for millions of affected people.

Why is un secretary general’s visit to Pakistan important?

The Secretary-General’s visit will further raise global awareness of the magnitude of this disaster and the resulting loss of lives and widespread devastation. It will contribute to enhancing the international response in line with the humanitarian and other needs of the 33 million affected Pakistanis.

The UNSG has been consistently pushing to link such disasters to the effects of climate change. At the same time, it has been warning the international community about the existential threat of our planet if climate change is not addressed in a timely and effective manner.

Cataclysmic floods have inundated a third of the country and displaced more than 33 million people. Pakistan’s already crumbling economy has suffered an economic loss of $ 12.5 billion.

Quetta: Heavy rains in southwest Pakistan and other parts of the country have killed at least nine people, including women and children today.

According to the Disaster Management Agency, seven people were killed when the roofs of houses collapsed due to heavy rains in Quetta, the capital of southwestern Balochistan.

In addition, two bodies washed away in the floods have been recovered near the dam. Many people have gone missing due to overnight floods in remote areas, leading to fears of an increase in deaths.

The torrential rains that started on Monday continued on Tuesday, damaging dozens of houses in Balochistan, officials said. Rains have killed 38 people and damaged more than 200 homes across the country, including Balochistan, since June. In the past few days, a bus slipped and fell into a ravine due to heavy rains in Balochistan, killing 19 people on board.
