Ottawa: The Parliamentary Committee voted in favor of an investigation into a recent decision by the Ethics Committee against International Trade Minister Mary Eng.

Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett presented a resolution to the House of Commons Ethics Committee to study the matter.

The resolution was passed unanimously and two meetings have been scheduled to study the matter. In December, the Federal Ethics Commissioner ruled that ng’s office had violated the Conflict of Interest Act while awarding a $17,000 contract to his friend.

The Conservatives had filed a preliminary complaint in this regard, saying that the findings against Ng had proved that the Liberals benefited their favorites. But this was denied by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In his report, Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion had said that NG had a good relationship with Amanda Alvaro, co-founder of public relations firm Pomp & Sarkumstance, and the agreement was signed to take this friendship forward.

After this report, NG had apologized and said that she should not have been involved in this process.
