CHANDIGARH: Polling for Punjab Assembly Elections on Sunday ended peacefully with 71.95 % of the total 2.14 crores voters in the state turned out to exercise their franchise. He said of total 15469618 persons who have casted votes, there were 8133930 Males and 7335406 Females, while 282 were Transgenders/Others.

Giving the final details here on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Punjab Dr S Karuna Raju said that of total 117 constituencies of the state, Gidderbaha remained at the top with highest polling percentage 84.93%, followed by Talwandi Sabo (83.70%) and Sardulgarh (83.64%), while Amritsar West (55.40%), Ludhiana South (59.04%) and Amritsar Central (59.19%) constituencies have witnessed lowest voting percentage.

He said that scrutiny reports of all the 23 districts have been received at the Office of Chief Electoral Officer.

He said that over 23 tonnes of COVID waste, which includes PPE Kits, face masks, hand gloves, face shields etc, was generated from 24740 Polling Stations on polling day in the State. The waste was collected and disposed off with the help of District Nodal Officers of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) appointed in each district in an environmentally sound manner, he added.

On Law & Order situation, Dr Raju said that some minor poll related incidents witnessed in the state and a total of 33 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered on day of polling to avert any untoward incidents. Of total 33 FIRs, 10 were related Minor Clashes, 16 of violation of prohibitory orders, three of poll related offences, three of other cases and one was related to Firing Incident.

Chandigarh: The Punjab on Sunday witnessed overall peaceful single phased poll to elect 117 representatives for assembly constituencies of state. Till 5pm, 63.44 voting percentage was recorded in Punjab.

Thanking the people of Punjab for coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right , Dr S Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that by conducting themselves responsibly the people of Punjab have set an excellent example. He said that focus of ECI was to ensure peaceful poll in a free and fair manner. He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that 196 all Women polling stations also saw large numbers of voters. Dr Raju said that the main feature of this election was deputition of 8784 micro-observers in addition to 65 General Observers, 29 Police observers and 50 expenditure observers by ECI.

He said that in the morning during mock poll 146 ballot units, 152 control units and 433 VVPAT machines were replaced, while 72 ballot units, 64 control units and 649 VVPATs were replaced during the conduct of poll.

He also said that there was not a single case of disruption of poll and inducement of voters that was brought to the notice of the Commission during the day.

He also thanked 25000 Booth Level Officers (BLO), PWD coordinators, Asha Workers, Aanganwadi workers, Mid-Day-Meal workers and Village Chowkidars for their contribution in the election process.

Chandigarh: Punjab Assembly Elections 2022.  A total of 1,304 candidates, including 93 women and two transgenders, are in the fray for the high-stake electoral contest in the state.

-A clash broke out between workers of BJP and AAP at Jalloo Kee village in Ferozepur (urban) constituency. One AAP worker Surjit Singh sustained minor injuries. Police rushed to the spot and situation is under control, officials said.

-Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that Congress will form government with 2/3rd majority in Punjab. He is contesting from Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur constituencies.

– Aam Aadmi Party candidate Labh Singh Ugoke’s vehicle was attacked by some people. The accused ran after their vehicle and later attacked a youth climbed on to the bonnet of their vehicle and damaged the vehicle.

AAP candidate is contesting against chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi in Bhadaur. Police are investigating the case.

. Chandigarh: In order to facilitate the voter of Punjab during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr. S. Karuna Raju has asked the voters to carry Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to establish their identity at the polling station before casting votes on februry 20 , 2022.

According to the directions of ECI, those electors not having EPIC could cast their votes if they have any of the alternative documents like Aadhaar card, MGNREGA job card, Bank or Post office passbooks with photographs, Health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of ministry of labour, driving license, PAN card, Smart card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension documents with photograph, service ID cards (with photograph) issued by central or state governments or public sector undertakings/Public limited Companies, official identity card issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs and Unique Disability ID (UDID) issued by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India. These total 12 documents to be used as identity proof.
