It is our humble request to everyone to keep the departed soul in their thoughts and continue with their pre-scheduled programme. This will be a true tribute to Heeraben.”

Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Tata Memorial Center (Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre) to the country this afternoon at New Chandigarh (Mullanpur Garibdas).

After the inauguration, the Prime Minister visited the hospital and reviewed the arrangements and interacted with the doctors. On this occasion, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with some Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders were present. .

On December 30, 2013, the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of this cancer hospital and research center. The hospital, built in about 9 years near the hills of Shivalik, has been built on about 51 acres of land. Due to the increase in the number of cancer patients in Punjab, the Congress government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh decided to build a cancer hospital and research center near Chandigarh.

The construction of this hospital will provide a boost to the modern medical infrastructure in the National Capital Region, providing world-class cancer care and treatment to the people of Tricity, Punjab and states and Union Territories. 300 beds have been arranged in the hospital.

The hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for all types of cancer treatment. Surgery, Radio-therapy and Medical Oncology- Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Bone Marrow Transplant facility will be available here. A 100-bed hospital in Sangrur will function as its ‘branch’.

Earlier, two helipads were constructed near the event to land the Prime Minister’s helicopter. After inaugurating the hospital, the PM said that before 2014, there were less than 400 medical colleges in the past 70 years. At the same time, in the last 8 years, more than 200 new medical colleges have been built in the country.

Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on Wednesday under tight security arrangements. The Punjab government is leaving no stone unturned in the entire security arrangements of the Prime Minister. Central intelligence agencies and the state intelligence wing are keeping a close watch on the situation. The airspace around the events has been declared a ‘no-fly zone’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 300-bed Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) on August 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to Punjab on January 5 for a rally in Ferozepur but had to return due to an alleged security lapse. Congress led Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was governing the Punjab at that time. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Jalandhar on February 14 for the last time before the Punjab Assembly elections.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari will share the stage with the Prime Minister tomorrow. Taking a cue from his visit to Ferozepur, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann now does not want to give any such opportunity to the Central Government regarding the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Over 10,000 police and civil administration officials have been deployed for the prime minister’s visit and 7,000 of them will be on guard. The security is being commanded by three ADGPs, several IGs and DIGs.
