New Delhi: After facing violent protests over radical new Agnipath scheme to recruit soldiers only for four years , the Union government has increased the upper age to 23 years.

In a order, issued on Thursday late night, government cited that consequent to the commencement of the AGNIPATH scheme, the entry age for all new recruits in the Armed Forces has been fixed as 17 ½ – 21 years of age.

Cognizant of the fact that it has not been possible to undertake the recruitment during the last two years, the Government has decided that a one-time waiver shall be granted for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022.

Accordingly, the upper age limit for the recruitment process for Agnipath scheme for 2022 is increased to 23 years, the government’s order said.

New Delhi: 10 Muslim girls have been booked by the Karnataka police for violating prohibitory orders and staging protest over Hijab ban outside a Girls Empress Govt PU College in Tumkur, Kartanka on February 17.

“Police have registered an FIR against at least 10 girls for violating prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 of CrPC by staging a protest against the hijab rule outside Girls Empress Govt PU College in Tumkur on Feb 17, under Sections 143, 145, 188 and 149 of IPC, ” news agency ANI Tweeted on Saturday.

The move came a day after Karnataka government told the High Court that hijab is not an essential religious practice in Islam and the court in its interim order has restrained students from wearing any religious attire in the education institutes till a final order has not been passed into the matter.

A controversy erupted after a group of Muslim students attended classes after wearing headscarves in a pre-university college in Udupi and they were asked to leave the campus. Later, the matter spread to different parts and Hindu students wore saffron mufflers in the classroom in a protest against hijab.
