Chandigarh: The bail application of Bhupinder Singh alias Honey, nephew of former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, arrested in connection with an illegal mining case, has been rejected by the court.

He was arrested by ED in a money laundering and sand mining case after recovering Rs 10 crore from his house in February this month and he has been in jail since then.

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday said he has spoken to Navjot Singh Sidhu and invited him to talks so that the differences, if any, can be ironed out.

While addressing a media conference here, CM said that Sidhu is head of the family and he has spoken to him over the phone, all the differences will be sorted out soon in the party.

Sidhu had resigned from the post of the Punjab Congress president saying that he won’t be able to compromise with ethics and moral authority. Sidhu, on Wednesday, also posted a video on his official twitter account and said that he would keep fighting for welfare of Punjab and he resigned as party high command has again given positions to some persons who had worked against the Punjab people.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated newly appointed Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi.

Channi swore as 16th Punjab CM in presence of Rahul Gandhi, Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Rawat and many other senior leaders after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the post on Saturday citing that he felt humiliated as treated by Congress high command in recent months.

PM wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to Shri Charanjit Singh Channi Ji on being sworn-in as Punjab’s Chief Minister. Will continue to work with the Punjab government for the betterment of the people of Punjab.”

The 58-year-old Dalit Sikh leader was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at a simple ceremony. He took the oath in Punjabi.

Chandigarh: After spree of meetings and feedback from MLAs, the Congress high command has cleared the name of Sukhjinder Randhawa as the new CLP leader.

Formal announcement would be made after a while, said party sources.

Randhawa is a traditional Congressman and has been instrumental in taking on Capt Amarinder Singh. He represents Dera Baba Nanak and Randhawa first successfully contested for Punjab Legislative Assembly from Fatehgarh Churian in 2002 defeating Akali dal’s Nirmal Singh Kahlon. In 2012, he was elected from new constituency Dera Baba Nanak.

He was one of the 42 INC MLAs who submitted their resignation in protest of a decision of the Supreme Court of India ruling Punjab’s termination of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) water canal unconstitutional.
