Chandigarh: Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday said the fugitives should surrender before the law in connection with the escape of separatist Amritpal Singh.

He also said that the hard-earned peace of the state will not be allowed to be disturbed. Yadav paid obeisance at the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar today.

Talking to reporters, he said the police will arrest the absconders and it would be better if such absconders surrender to the law on their own.

On reports of Amritpal Singh taking shelter at a religious place, the DGP said religious places should not be used for personal reasons.

DGP Gaurav Yadav wrote in a tweet, “Today, I paid obeisance at Shri Darbar Sahib in #Amritsar and prayed for the peace & harmony of the state. Reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming #Baisakhi celebrations, @PunjabPoliceInd will keep #Punjab safe and secure.”

Chandigarh: In a big relief for former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that Saini’s involvement in multiple cases might be a political ploy ahead of the state assembly elections, there court put stay on Saini’s arrest till February 2022.

The order came as a major embarrassment for the Punjab government who had registered several cases against Saini and also arrested him in an embezzlement case recently.

The court has put stay on arrest in the all-ongoing investigations along with any likely to be registered cases.

Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan, in his 46-page judgement asserted he was conspicuous of the dare shown by the Punjab Police officials in trying to overreach the Court, which was also a circumstance to be considered about the nature and quality of investigation being conducted by the Punjab Police in the FIRs.
