Chandigarh: Following the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to provide quality education, a one day Workshop was organised for English Teachers by Regional English Language Office (RELO), Washington DC. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Punjab Government and Department of School Education at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana on Thursday.

As many as 320 teachers of subjects including English and Social Studies from across the Punjab participated in the workshop.

The training session was graced by the decorous presence of Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Principal Advisor to Director Education GNCT of Delhi Shailendra Sharma. Dr Praveen Chaudhary, OSD to Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Education, Delhi along with Director SCERT Dr. Maninder Sarkaria, Assistant Director Rajesh Bhardwaj, Assistant Director Gurjeet Singh, State Resource Person Chander Shekhar also present on the occasion.

Regional English Language Officer at Regional English Language Office, American Embassy Ruth Goode, Regional English Language Specialist at Regional English Language Office American Embassy Shweta Khanna and Mentor Teacher and English Language Teacher at Directorate of Education GNCT of Delhi Manu Gulati termed the workshop as a very subjective and quality interactive session with the students and teachers.

Ruth Goode (RELO), while addressing the workshop, brought in her rich Global experience to captivate the minds of the teachers by focussing on the importance of use of English in the language classrooms.

Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer lent an attentive ear to the grave problems being faced by the teachers in their respective schools and assured them an immediate solution in the times to come.

He appreciated the stupendous efforts made by the teachers for the overall progress and development of the students.

The minister, while exhorting teachers to keep their focus only on teaching, assured them that soon, they will be freed from all the non-teaching tasks.

Meet Hayer also promised to measure out and grasp all possible ideas and methodologies from foreign countries if ever needed, to bring Quality Education in Punjab.

Chandigarh: Punjab schools have topped in a recently conducted National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 report released by the education ministry.

According to the Ministry of Education Punjab has not only scored more than the national average in all the categories but also topped in 10 out of 15 subjects while leaving behind other states including Delhi.

The survey was carried out in November 2021, in all subjects of classes 3, 5 and 8.

Moreover, the state has also bagged top ranking in mathematics in Class 10.

Meanwhile, Congress government attacked Aam Aadmi Party over the issue as it has been claiming that Delhi education system is better and attempting to implement the “Delhi model”, which had “lagged behind” Punjab.

Congress Punjab chief Amarinder Raja Warring Tweeted, “This might be the first time in history that a Chief Minister is not happy with his State’s exceptional performance. Punjab has ranked No.1 in national education survey and the CM @BhagwantMann ji hasn’t said anything to congratulate the hard work of our teachers.”

He further said that If it was Delhi, the @AamAadmiParty leadership would have jumped the gun to hail @ArvindKejriwal model of governance. Anyway, we at @INCPunjab are grateful for the hard work & dedication of each and every Punjabi teacher who toiled hard to make this possible. Grateful.

Chandigarh: Addressing the heads of government schools and education officers of Punjab education minister Meet Hayer on Tuesday said that the teachers will only focus on education and no other duties will be given to them to reform the system.

He said that Aam Aadmi Party government has already started doing extraordinary work from the day one which successive governments used to do in last year of their governance before the election.

The Cabinet Minister also appreciated the work done by school heads and teachers in various schools of Punjab in improving the schools.

He said the works of teachers who do good work will be developed as role models. The education minister said the shortage of teachers and other staff in schools would be addressed soon.
