Chandigarh: The Punjab government is cancelling the arms licences of ‘Waris Punjab De’ head Amritpal Singh and his supporters after they attacked the Ajnala police station.

Orders have been issued to review the arms licenses of Amritpal and eight of his supporters involved in his security guard. Interestingly, two of these supporters are residents of Punjab, but they have obtained arms licences from Jammu and Kashmir.

He had a licence for a .32 bore revolver and a .315 bore rifle. Two other supporters of Amritpal, Varinder Singh and Talwinder Singh, are residents of Tarn Taran, but they have been issued arms licences from Kishtwar and Jammu respectively. The government has asked the magistrates of these districts to review the licences in the light of the recent violence in Ajnala.

According to the list of arms holders, Amritpal has a license for a .32 bore revolver, which has been issued by Tarn Taran district. The licence is valid till 2027, but does not mention the date of issue.

Other supporters included .32 bore revolver, 30.06 spring field rifle with Harpreet Devgan of Patiala, 12 bore double gun and .32 bore revolver with Ram Singh Brar of Kotkapura, .32 bore revolver with Gurmeet Singh Bukanwala of Moga, 12 bore donali gun with Avtar Singh of Chhajli Sangrur, 12 bore double gun with Avtar Singh of Chhajli Sangrur, 12 bore pistol with Harjit Singh of Khilchian Amritsar. They include a .32 bore revolver and a .315 bore rifle.
