Chandigarh: The Punjab government has taken important steps to prevent road accidents in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the Home Department to set up police nakas outside all marriage palaces in Punjab.

The government has issued orders to set up nakas outside the Marriage Palace to check with an alco sensor. If the driver is drunk, the driver should be challaned immediately.

The government has started action to prevent road accidents during the wedding season in Punjab. Orders have been issued by the government to check with an alco sensor on the spot and impose a heavy fine.

During the earlier governments, drunken driving was punishable with imprisonment for six months or a fine of Rs 10,000 or both, but if caught for the second time, it could lead to imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of Rs 15,000 or both. While implementing the Motor Vehicles Act- 2019 in Punjab, the previous Captain government had removed the section of penal action against drink and drive.
