Chandigarh: A team of Amritsar Vigilance Range reached the house and shopping complex of Gurdaspur MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra.

The team took stock of the property here and examined some documents. Significantly, the investigation against MLA Phara is going on in the disproportionate assets case.

Last month, MLA was summoned to DSP vigilance Gurdaspur office in connection with the same investigation where he was questioned for 8 hours.

The vigilance team had sought documents from the MLA regarding the purchase of several properties. Now vigilance is investigating on the basis of these documents. Apart from MLA Pahra, the vigilance has summoned the current municipal council head Baljit Singh, father Gurmeet Singh, Jagbir Singh Jaggi for questioning.

MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra reached the office last month after being summoned by the Vigilance Department. During that time, he was saluted by DSP Varinder Singh.

The video became very viral on social media. After which the said DSP was transferred.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Inspector Baljit Singh of Punjab Police red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh.

A spokesman of the Vigilance Bureau said that Inspector Baljit Singh, traffic in-charge at Tarn Taran, was arrested on the complaint of Sharanjit Singh Jimmy, a resident of Model Town, Kharar (Mohali). The accused policeman was earlier also suspended in the NDPS case.

The accused policeman had earlier also been suspended in the NDPS case. The complainant approached the VB alleging that the policeman was demanding a bribe of Rs 1,000,000 lakh for exempting his father and mother from appearance in a court case, he said.

The policeman has demanded that the bribe amount be paid in two installments of Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.

After verifying the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and nabbed the policeman red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh as the first instalment.

Chandigarh: Aiming to curb the menace of corruption in the state, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) Punjab on Wednesday arrested a Senior Branch Officer of Markfed Punjab, Rajbir Singh Bains in a misappropriation case for committing embezzlement of 12,194 wheat bags weighing 6,097 quintals in the stock of stored wheat at MRM complex Rajpura, district Patiala. In this case four accused officials including Rajbir Singh Bains have caused huge losses to state exchequer amounting to Rs.1,24,61,658.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said in this regard a case FIR No.7 dated 13-05-2016 under section 409, 120-B of IPC and 13(1) D, 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act had already been registered at VB police station Patiala in which Rajbir Singh Bains, senior branch officer, Markfed, Rajpura, Farid Khan, custodian, MRM complex and Daler Singh, salesman were found responsible for causing this embezzlement. In this case Ashwani Kumar, field officer, open plinth, village Dhindsa, Rajpura has also been nominated during the investigation.

He further added that this case has been registered after surprise checking of Markfed storage godowns along with food and civil supplies department officials at MRM complex, Rajpura and open plinth at Dhindsa. During this checking, the VB team has found that the above mentioned Markfed officials were responsible for misappropriation of 12194 wheat bags weighing 6097 quintals during the check year 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. In this way the above mentioned accused have caused loss of Rs.1,24,61,658 to the state exchequer by misappropriating this wheat stock. Further investigation in this regard was under progress, he added.

Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign on Monday arrested a police Sub-Inspector Bisman Singh, who was earlier posted as SHO, sadar police station Nakodar, Jalandhar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Resham Singh posted at CIA Jalandhar and a private person Surjit Singh for taking a bribe of Rs 1,00,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the VB said the all the above mentioned accused have been arrested on the complaint of Harjinder Kumar resident of village Rampur Thoda, Rupnagar district.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above mentioned sub-inspector had arrested his brother from Hoshiarpur along with his truck in a false case by showing recovery of poppy husk in the vehicle when he was SHO at Nakodar.

The complainant further informed that the sub-inspector Bisman Singh through a private person Surjit Singh and ASI Resham Singh had already received Rs 11,00,000 in installments to release his brother and the truck loaded from Srinagar.

He further alleged that the though the accused police sub-inspector has been transferred to police lines Jalandhar but he was demanding more money through his two other middlemen to help him in this police case.

After verification of the facts in the complaint and the material evidence, a VB team have arrested the above mentioned sub-inspector Bisman Singh, ASI Rehsam Singh and private person Surjit Singh for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

Meanwhile, a case under section 7, 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against all the accused and further investigation was under progress, police said.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested the accused commission agent Anil Jain, owner of Shri Krishna Rice Mill, Sawaddi, in Ludhiana district, in the case already registered by the Bureau against the contractors for getting labour cartage and transportation tenders in the grain markets at higher rates in connivance with officials. He was produced in court today and remanded for TWO days police custody.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the VB said that during the arrest of accused Jain, his Innova car has also been taken into possession and one briefcase containing documents has also been recovered from the car and further investigation is in process.

He informed that accused Anil Jain has been arrested in a case under FIR No. 11 Dated 16-08-2022, under section 420, 409, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of IPC and 7, 8, 12, 13(2) of prevention of corruption act registered at police station VB range Ludhiana Range in which contractors/tenderers namely Telu Ram and others are included.

The spokesperson further added that in this case accused Telu Ram, former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and commission agent Krishan Lal Dhotiwala have already been arrested and all are in judicial custody. He informed that the accused Anil Jain was nominated later on during investigation and was avoiding his arrest and his anticipatory bail application was also dismissed by the High Court.

Revealing more details he said commission agent Anil Jain has also been charged with allegations of bringing Paddy at lesser rates from other states like UP, Bihar etc. in his rice sheller and was selling the same after mixing with purchased paddy of Government quota stored in his sheller. He also used to store paddy purchased by him in his own sheller in violation of the milling policy of State.

He further added that Anil Jain was arrested by a VB team from his sheller at village Swaddi Kalan, after putting efforts for 6 hours approximately in the presence of police officials of police station Sidhwan Bet besides Sarpanches of Swaddi (West) and Swaddi (East) and other respectable persons of adjoining villages. He said the accused has called his family members and workers in the seller and locked himself in a room to evade his arrest. He was arrested in the presence of above mentioned responsible persons and family members after breaking the door of room.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the State has nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh (831/Amritsar rural), posted at PSPCL Anti Power Theft police station at Verka, Amritsar red handed for accepting bribe of Rs 4,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused ASI has been arrested on the complaint of Tarlochan Singh of Navi Abadi, Verka. Giving details he said the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official was an investigation officer in a power theft case registered against him. The complainant informed that the ASI was demanding bribe of Rs. 4,000 for submission of investigation report in the court regarding this case.

The spokesperson added that after verifying this complaint, a VB team from Amritsar unit laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed taking bribe money of Rs. 4,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Amritsar and further investigation was under progress.

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, during its campaign against corruption in the State, on Friday nabbed a private person accepting bribe of Rs.1,00,000 in the name of police officials, to settle a vigilance case. During his search the Bureau has recovered one .32 bore Revolver,

One car and 2 mobile phones from his possession.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said the above mentioned private person Sukhjinder Singh of village Chak Roriwala (Tambuwala), Tehsil Jalalabad, district Fazilka has been arrested on the complaint of Sandeep Singh.

Giving details of this case he informed that the accused Sukhjinder Singh was a complainant in a bribery case under FIR No 13 dated 04-08-2022 under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, at VB police station Ferozpur which was registered against Swaran Rani, Junior Engineer, MGNAREGA, Fazilka. In this trap case she was nabbed earlier by VB while taking bribe amount of Rs 25,000 from this private person.

He further added that the complainant Sandeep Singh has approached the VB and alleged that accused Sukhjinder Singh was demanding Rs 15 lakh from him as a bribe in the name of police officials to dispose of the above said case but deal has been struck at Rs 11 lakh. The complainant Sandeep Singh is a brother of Swarna Rani JE.

The spokesperson further added that after verification of facts and material evidence, a VB team from VB, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Ludhiana has arrested the accused Sukhjinder Singh in the presence of two official witnesses while accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh in advance as remaining amount was to be given later on.

He informed that in this regard a case under FIR No 11, dated 30-09-2022 under section 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB EOW police station, Ludhiana. Further investigation in this case is under progress.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday arrested Baghirath Rai, former president of Municipal Committee Sunam, Sangrur district on the charges of embezzlement in the government funds.

Disclosing this here today a pokesperson of the VB said the Bureau has conducted a through probe into the misappropriation of funds in the MC Sunam. During the investigation it was found that Baghirath Rai prepared fake bills pertaining to repair of his official vehicle. In addition to this he had not properly implemented the prescribed advertisement policy in the MC as instructed by the state government during his tenure for two times thereby caused a financial loss of about Rs 4 lakh to the state exchequer.

The spokesperson further added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station Patiala and further investigation is under progress.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its anti-corruption campaign on Wednesday, has registered a corruption case against Constable Inderjit Singh posted in special branch, SSP office, Ferozepur for accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh and further demanding Rs 5 lakh.

Giving this information here today, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said the accused Constable Inderjit Singh has been booked under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act after the investigation report prepared on the basis of a complaint lodged by a complainant Janak Raj of village Panje Ki Uttar, Ferozepur district on State Anti-Corruption Helpline. In this regard a FIR has been registered at VB Police Station Ferozpur.

Revealing the details, he informed that the complainant has alleged in his online complaint that the above mentioned Constable was demanding bribe and threatening him to book in a false case for storing liquor made for Chandigarh. The complainant has submitted that the accused Constable has already taken Rs 2 lakh in this regard and demanding Rs 5 lakh more as a bribe thereby he recorded the conversation on his phone.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, during its campaign against corruption, on Friday registered another corruption case pertaining to allotment of residential plots in the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) under locally displaced persons’ (LDP) scheme against Boota Ram now Executive Engineer, Jagdev Singh Executive Engineer (XEN), Inderjeet Singh Junior Engineer, LIT, Mandeep Singh Junior Engineer of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and Kamaldeep Singh, a private person, resident of Model Town Extension, Ludhiana. In this case Jagdev Singh XEN, Inderjeet Singh and Mandeep Singh (Both JEs) and Kamaldeep Singh have been arrested.

Disclosing this here today, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said during investigation of case registered under FIR 8, dated 14.07.2022 under section 7, 7A the Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC at VB Police Station, Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana, it has been found that officials of the LIT with corrupt practices and in connivance with others had allotted residential plots to unauthorised persons under the LDP scheme. Though some of the allottees had already died but their plots were reallotted by the LIT officials to unauthorised persons violating prescribed rules and took huge bribe money from the beneficiaries.

Giving details he further informed that during this probe it has come on record that plot No 1544-D, in Model Town Extension, Ludhiana was allotted to a private person Kamaldeep Singh violating the rules. In this case Inderjeet Singh JE, Boota Ram Trust Engineer and Jasdeep Singh XEN, Mandeep Singh JE MC Ludhiana had prepared false/fabricated reports to the LIT regarding non availability of water and sewerage facilities in the above said locality.

With an aim to favour the allottee, the above mentioned officers/officials had waved off a non-construction fine amounting to Rs 27 lakh without getting approval from competent authority whereas it was required to be charged from the allottee thereby causing huge financial loss to the state exchequer.

The spokesperson further added that earlier to this a similar case under FIR No 09 under section 7, 7A, 8, 12, 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and under section 409, 420, 467, 471, 120-B of IPC had already been registered at VB Police Station, Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana for allotment of plots under LDP scheme by getting huge bribes from the beneficiaries.

In this case investigation was being carried out against the officials of LIT which included Raman Balasubramanium, former chairman LIT, Kuljit Kaur EO, Ankit Narang SDO, Parveen Kumar sales clerk, Gagandeep clerk and Sandeep Sharma PA to former chairman. Among the above mentioned accused Sandeep Sharma PA, Parveen Kumar Clerk and Kuljit Kaur EO have already been arrested and lodged in judicial custody. Others were avoiding arrest as further investigation was under progress, he added.
