New Delhi: The National Reserve Commission of India (DGCA) has issued notices to Air India over two cases of indecent behaviour with passengers.

On behalf of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Air India has been asked why prompt action was not taken by airline. Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Sunday admitted that Air India’s reaction to the alleged urination on a woman co-passenger by a passenger under the influence of alcohol should have been “faster”.

The first was on November 26, 2022, when a drunk passenger on board the Business class of Air India’s New York-New Delhi flight allegedly urinated on a 70-year-old woman co-passenger. The incident took place on December 6.

Earlier too, the aviation regulator had issued instructions to stop airlines from dealing with ‘unruly’ passengers. The regulator, DGCA, has said that the image of air travel has been tarnished due to non-action, lack of proper action or default on the part of airlines regarding untoward incidents.

The pilot-in-command is responsible for assessing whether the cabin crew can control a situation and accordingly send information to the airline’s central control for further action.
