New Delhi: Roger Binny, the hero of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, will be appointed president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in place of Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly, who has been the BCCI president for the last three years, will step down for Binny at the board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 18.

After weeks of preparations, it was decided that 67-year-old Binny from Bangalore will be the 36th chairman of the board.

Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will continue to be the BCCI secretary for the second time in a row.

Rajiv Shukla, the lone Congressman among BCCI office-bearers, will continue to be the vice-chairman of the board. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s younger brother Arun Singh Dhumal will now be the chairman of the Indian Premier League. He will replace Brijesh Patel.

Maharashtra BJP leader Ashish Shelar will be the new treasurer of the board. He was supposed to play this role with the support of the Sharad Pawar faction. Devjit Saikia, a close aide of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will be the new joint secretary. He will replace Jayesh George. Whether the BCCI will contest for the post of ICC chairman is yet to be decided.
