Ottawa: The, Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188 fighter jets have taken up their NATO Air Policing duties at a ceremony at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, alongside the Romanian Air Force, and other allies today.

A total of eight CF-18s have been deployed to Romania and the ATF conducts 24/7 Air Policing missions using a six aircraft rotation until December 2 while two additional aircraft have also been temporarily deployed for concurrent NATO training activities, government of Canada said in a statement.

“As part of Canada’s support to #NATO and European security, Air Task Force Romania assumed NATO enhanced Air Policing duties today. A total of eight CF-18s have deployed to Romania,” Canadian Armed Forces wrote on Twitter.

This is the seventh time that Canada has deployed an ATF to Romania as part of NATO’s enhanced Air Policing mission.

“I announced the deployment of up to 225 Canadian Forces personnel to train new Ukrainian Armed Forces recruits.

Training is the most valuable contribution we can make to support Ukraine as it fights for its sovereignty and stability. Our mission in Romania allows us to contribute to NATO’s collective defence,” said Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence.
