United Nations: India abstained from voting on the draft resolution tabled in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) seeking to hold Russia accountable for violating international law by invading Ukraine and compensating Kiev for the losses suffered in the war.

The 193-member UN General Assembly approved the draft resolution presented by Ukraine. The motion was passed with 94 votes in favour and 14 against it.

As many as 73 members, including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Israel, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka, abstained from voting. Belarus, China, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Russia and Syria voted against the draft resolution.

Ottawa: Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development spoke with Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Yulia Svyrydenko, and reaffirmed Canada’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people.

She also highlighted the progress made on the modernization of the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement as a means of supporting Ukraine’s long-term recovery and international trade policy interests.

The minister reiterated Canada’s support for the trade and investment priorities of Germany’s current G7 presidency. These include cooperative efforts on WTO reform, the modernization of international trade rules, the sustainability and resiliency of supply chains, and market distortions related to industrial subsidies and the practices of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

On September 14-15, the minister Ng, participated in the G7 Trade and Investment Ministers’ Meeting, hosted in Neuhardenberg, Germany, by Robert Habeck, Germany’s Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

At the meeting, Minister Ng encouraged the continued coordination of G7 members to ensure the effectiveness of ongoing economic sanctions against Russia, support Ukraine’s economic recovery, and address the global challenges of food and energy security and supply chain disruptions.

Meanwhile, G7 members also discussed how they can work together to raise labour and environmental standards, ensure intellectual property rights, and address economic coercion.

In her meeting with Yasutoshi Nishimura, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Kenji Yamada, State Minister for Foreign Affairs from Japan, the Minister highlighted Canada’s efforts to further increase its presence in the Indo-Pacific, building on the success of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Kyiv: Russian Defence Ministry officials have claimed that only military bases have been targeted at the Odessa port. Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said long-range missiles in Odessa destroyed a ukrainian warship and a warehouse of Harpoon missiles that had been supplied by the US to the Kiev regime.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy said in his speech on TV Saturday night that the attack on Odessa had undermined the possibility of talks with Russia. The Ukrainian military had said That Moscow had attacked the port of Odessa with four cruise missiles, two of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defences.

New Delhi: The future of Indian students, who were studying in Ukraine and left the education abruptly during Russia-Ukraine war, however, a good one is coming amidst all this.

Now these students will be able to continue their studies by taking admission in Russian University.

Roman Babushkin, deputy head of mission of the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, has given this good news and said that Indian students will be given admission in Russian universities, where they can continue their studies with their respective courses.

The careers of Indian students who had left Ukraine due to the Russo-Ukraine war were clouded with crisis and they were facing uncertainty about their future. There is good news for them from the Russian embassy. Roman Babushkin, deputy head of the Russian embassy, said such students could now continue their studies at Russian universities.

From where they had given a break to their studies, i.e. from where they left the course, they will now be able to continue their studies from there. Now they will also get rid of the problem of leaving studies in between and their academic year will also not be bad.

 

Students may also be eligible for a scholarship at Russian University:

According to Ratheesh C. Nair, honorary consul of the Russian Federation and director of the Russian House in Thiruvananthapuram, students who were getting the scholarship can also get scholarships in Russian universities, although they have made it clear that they will have to pay fees to take admission in Russian universities, the fees given in Ukraine will not be valid for the universities here.
